The heater fan on my 97 Astra now only works on the No 4 setting (highest). Any ideas on the parts needed and how best to get at them ?

You need a new resistor pack.
Locate the blower motor (can't recall if it's under the bonnet below the plastic cover below the windscreen, or behind the glovebox in the car itself) and then the resistor pack will be nearby.
