I'm trying to help a friend with an early MX5 and we need to get the wheels off for refurbishing. Are the support points at the jacking points (on some cars they're not)? If not, please advise.

You can support/jack it at the ends of the sills (where the flange is extra-thick); under the centre of the front subframe - ahead of where the sump is; at the back under the centre of the diff (avoiding the drain plug).

As said - you can feel the reinforced bit of the underneath of the floor behind the sill. ISTR it's lined up with the small notches in the sill seam. I used a block of wood with a saw slot in it to avoid loading the sill seam which has drain points in that area and if they block up then you can be in trould with water sloshing about in the sill!.
Whatever you do, don't use the two frame rails about a foor in from the sills - these are just floor strengthening and will collapse if used to jack or support.

Excellent rapid response. Many thanks.

Thanks again, folks. Job done in a very awkward position: a narrow street in which car has to be up against the pavement, so some extra lifting was necessary to get the nearside wheels off. I've put the axle stands (topped with thick cardboard) at the ends of the sills where the jacking points are (between the semi-circles cut out of the sills).
