One of the worst bonnetts to open without damaging anything after a cable has broken.

Take it to an independant garage, they will probably only charge 40 area?

If I had to do another one though, I would charge at least 50!

Don't forget its got 2 catches; you have to improvise access to both and release them to open it!

Foot note to all laguna owners! grease bonet cables and catches regularly and if you suspect cable problem, replace it quick!

I had an M reg 95 that had this problem - if it is the same shape then you can get to them by using a long scredriver from underneath - mine was over a pit at the time, and then tripping the catch - the guy who did it was a renault tech and he has done lots of them, very common problem. When you get a new catch (it is more likely the catch that has broken rather then the cable) then one cure I have seen is to put a couple of cable ties round the end of the cable where it meets the catch and this takes some of the pressure off of the plastic connector and stops it from braking!!!

I had a similar problem with my laguna, the 'bounce' method works, i would suggest getting one of your friends or family or perhaps the dog to assist with this method, of course make sure that the dog isnt high on sleeping pills and red wine or else serious damage could occur.
Failing that i suggest................ getting your transit tipper (after disconnecting the caravan) and towing the laguna to your nearest scrap dealer and putting it in the bailer so that it can be made into something more useful!.

Or if I was you just pay renault £70 and just stick to DJ'ing...
Hope my info was of some help

Good Luck

Different from the Clio bonnets (97 till 2000) - they apparently open themselves quite often but it slams into the windcsreen, damages the roof - seen 2 in the last month on the hard shoulder of the motorway - Watchdog on the BBC highlighted this 2 years back and it still happens as there is no Renault recall and it must happen all the time if I saw 2 in a month.

how many cars do you see running round on the safety catch though?i see loads,at one time i would flag them down but road chivelry has got to be approached carefully these days and is often easier/safer to ignore and go on your way

sad but true
