Curtains for Ryton - Chas{P}
Just announced a few minutes ago......

The Peugeot plant at Ryton will close early by January 07 with most employees not returning after the 2 week christmas shutdown.

Lovely time to do it. Neat on the books cos its at a year end. terrible for those affected cos they cant enjoy the time!

Scrooge effect I think i'd call it!

Financial year end isn't December! They may be able to use the space for Coventry airport off-site parking so some good may come of it but not for the displaced employees I know.

It is for some companies. Not all of them end at 31st March.

Could be wrong but didn't they do this last year, and then there was a big march, some celebrities and a last minute reprieve?

very decent of the company to tell them now rather than the 22 december in my opinion, at least they can plan for the new year with a definative closure date now.

Apparantly they have brought the closing date forward because so many employees had either left for new jobs or had asked to leave. The plant would have been unable to function with the reduced workforce.
