does anybody know when winter additives are added to petrol???
|
|
I didn't think petrol needed it. I thought it only applied to diesels to help prevent waxing.
|
|
if petrol needs winter additives then I don't think many of us will be driving anyway; the roads will be out of use way before the petrol is!

|
Most manufacturers add a few more light ends-aromatics-whatever.

DIESEL ALWAYS SEEMS TO GO UP IN PRICE IN THE WINTER, perhaps thats it then.
|
AFAIK issue with diesel is that it is to all intents same stuff as heating oil and from crude fraction in limited supply . In northern winter demand exceeds supply so price rises.
Already 4/6p litre premium here in middle England so could get interesting if we have cold January.

Intermediate diesel and petrol started 1st September, Winter starts 1st of November, and continues until mid-April.

So fuel in the tanks at a petrol station on 2nd April still contain Winter fuel, even though only summer fuel may be supplied; and vice versa at November 2nd!
Hmm, so any overnight fuel delivery could be a problem at these dates!
And as soon as a deliery is made the two types are mixed and called the same?
Hmm, so what fuel is in the tanks at what dates then?
Or, is it the same stuff anyway? Yep!

Didn't you read the regulations on the link I posted?
There is a two month changeover phase (which we are in the middle of), not an overnight switch.
