Does anyone know if there's a way to get the valve timing right first time on this engine? It's had a snapped cambelt, and i know about the procedure for timing this engine up, the problem is that it relys on setting the valve timing on all 4 pistons being level, this seems bizarre to me since all 4 pistons will be level 4 times during the 4 strokes of the engine, knowing that the system relys on a crank position sensor i have to find the right one, now i'm guessing that it'll be when the missing tooth is coming round ready to fire on the CPS pick up as piston number one is on its way up on the compression stroke.. Anyone know any better? Just replaced 16 bent valves.. don't really want this to go wrong!

You need a special tool to set it up. See www.shop4parts.co.uk/index.cfm/method/catalogue.li.../. Haynes gives the dimensions if you want to make your own, although you will need a lathe.
