Pug 206 - Central locking problem - autumnboy
My wifes 2001 Pug 206 3 door, Central locking is playing up.

Whenever the doors or boot are used, the instrument panel says the Right Hand Front door is open, yet its closed and also the others are closed. Then if I try locking it, it locks then unlocks. But locks after a few attempts.

Any clues ??

Just a non-technical guess! When the car won't lock is the interior light on? This could point at a faulty microswitch in that right front door. If the car thinks the door isn't shut then it won't lock. Can you lock the car using the key in either of the door locks, as opposed to the remote?

Thanks,

Yes the interior light does stay on, although its been turned off incase of draining the battery.

I've taken the lock off and there is no way to get at the micro-switch. So I used that magic WD40 and sprayed through the holes around the catch. It appears to have done the trick, although it may be temporary.

The micro switch is usually in the door pillar ie where the hinges are, if it is the one that does the lights. Shouldn't be anything to do with the lock mechanism SFAIK. Anyway, you are making progress which is good!

There are no switches on the pillar as there used to be.

I'm sure they are built-in with the motorised unit for the locks with the number of wires going to it and its a sealed. Also this has been playing up for a week or two, strange why since spraying with WD40 has cured the problem, so I assume the switch is in there somewhere.

These early 206s suffer with door locking /latch problems.Lock followed by unlock and erratic operation of the interior light cicuit are the symptoms.Peugeot supply modified parts for these but require a rework of the wiring multiplug connectors that connect to the latch/lock units. If spraying with wd40 has fixed it ,then stay with it.

What do you call early 206's.?? this is a 2001 model.

Do you mean the actual multiwire connector on the lock itself.

I sprayed through the little holes etc around the catch to try and get to the switch part. It worked for a few days, but starting to fault again. I've found if I lock the system by inserting the key and hold in the locked position a second longer than the remote-locking when locking the car, it does not do the lock/unlock.

But which ever way the car is locked and stays locked, the message still comes up stating the "front r /h door - open" and the interior light will stay on.

Is this to do with the connector problem or the switch in the lock assembly..???

As above.

The problem has slowly returned.

I've noticed that if I leave the car for some 20/30secs, I can lock it with the remote fob OK. Or I can lock it with the key straight away on getting out of the car and that will central lock too and can also open it with the remote fob.

But the display still tells me that the "R/H door is open" (2dr) when starting the car and then driving for approx. 3 mins. There are no switches on the 'A' post, as the older cars had for the interior light.

Any clues

The switch is part of the latch inside the door.

Also is the interior light flashing as your driving?

I have to set the light not to come at all. otherwise it stays on all the time.

I've tried to remove the connector block from the lock, to check for any corrosion of the contact. but can't find how to release it or to remove the rod mechanism to remove the assembly.

Help !!!!!

Sorry not had the pleasure of taking a door latch off a 206 ( yet )

Be at least 2 rods, one to interior handle & other to locking button, maybe a third to the lock barrel ( sorry dont know the exact setup )

The lock barrel has the normal PSA quick clip on the back, pop the rubber bung out of the door to use that feature.

The interior handle is only held on by a couple of firm clips, slide it ( forwards I think ) & it will come free to clip the other end of the rod off.

I've had another go of getting the lock mechanism out of the door without success.

I've no problem in removing the sliding clip holding the barrel to the door, etc.

But I cannot get to the point where I can remove the rods from the mechanism (Twisting and Turning into position). Also I cannot remove the multiplug from the mechanism, because I cant find a retaining clip of some sort like you see on most multiplugs.

I think as already mentioned the multiplug connection may have corrosion in its terminals causing the central locking fault and error message on the display telling me the r/h door is open.

Any tips, apart from using a hacksaw to cut the rods and then reweld them when refitting the mechanism.
