Yaris T2 v T3 - decisions decisions - bigsuzy

Hi Folks,

need your help again,

I'm looking to buy a Yaris and I've found a vvti T2 ( which from the other discussions you see it smells of smoke) so have started looking for another Yaris.

My dad has found me a T3 which he says is higher speck etc, but its older and has 5k more miles on it. and is a bit above my budget ( and I feel under pressure as he is presurising me into buying it)

Is there really a difference between a T2 and T3, what should I go for ? as I'm sure i can find another T2 for the same price thats not as smelly with roughly the same amount of miles on it)

Does the T3 not come with aircon as standard? I could be wrong.

5K miles is not significant enough to worry about now, or upon resale.

Only the T-Spirit and T-Sport come with aircon as standard however the T3 does come with a much better spec than the T2 with things like central locking, electric windows, CD player etc. There are lots of yaris available and i would look for a T3 within your budget as it will be a much better buy than T2. Also look out for the special editions such as night and day or colour collection as these usually came with a prety good spec on them - often T3 with added extras.

I think not. A friend ended up getting a s/h T-Spirit 'cos she wanted aircon. (Hers was a diesel, nice to drive and sipped fuel)

Get the T3 - its similar spec to our GLS (7 years old had from new) - just those few extra touches.

These cars are not cheap new or used - base spec new was say £7k (don't quote me) but by the time you want stuff like 5 doors, colour coded bumpers, elec windows, decent audio & CD, these come out over £10k.

Just way up the extra cost per month for the nice things - you are going to struggle to get a cd player for a Yaris unless it's a Toyota one !

Basics like elec windows, cd and central locking are a must these days !

Our GLS (T-3) came out nearly the same price as a CDX (T-Spirit) by the time we added rear speakers (6 over the standard 4 in front) and a CD player in addition to tape player (it was 7 years ago - the tape has never been used - my wife wanted the option).

It's been a fantastic car and well worth the money. One trip to the dealers for one hour to replace a water pump (part cost £40, plus new antifreeze, plus fitting of about £60) and that's the only unscheduled trip in 7 years - I now service and maintain it myself and they are a joy to work on !

The Yaris is a great car but the money you will spend for a year old one you could buy something new from another manufacturer. Don't have to worry about smoke smells then !

The great thing is you can buy a 3-5 year old Yaris - under 30k miles and FSH - in virtually as new condition . Lots on ebay and Autotrader. And very comfortable for those with back problems. My wife loves ours for the comfort.. And Toyota quality and reliability is worth a premium.. (where are all the "my Yaris has a problem" threads? )

Following on from madf, I can't fault our Yaris - hence why we've never traded it in. It still looks like showroom condition, despite two young children, but it's on a private plate so no-one know's it's an early 1999 Yaris ! Many of the parents from school think it's new. I do look after it, it get's washed every week, and a regular polish/wax, but still looks fantastic in flame red after 7 years.

You don't get many problems at all. Yes they do rattle a bit over bad surfaces, but are a real nice car. Even our 1.0 (1.3 not available when we got ours) is quick enough - you just need to give them revs to get going, a characteristic of VVT.

Get one !

I agree Suzy - Get one but select carefully . Do not let yourself be pressured.

SWMBO runs a 5 door 1.3 GLS Yaris and loves it.

Try and get a 1.3 rather than a 1 litre though as the 1 litre is underpowered on hills and with anything like a full load.

I hunted down a very early 1.3 CDX, for that reason, after reading the reviews.

It is still performing well.
