VW Golf TDI-Turbo Chip - Tony Soprano
Whats the deal with getting a turbo chipped?Seems to be an easy operation, with more power, better mpg,but is there anydown side to doing it?I assume it counts as a modification for insurance purposes?Do these chips actually work?

Is this the MK3 Golf?

More power will cause more wear and tear, especially the clutch if you tramp it everywhere.

Do it you'll love it ;-)

Your current insurance company probably won't insure you. Only a relative few insurance companies will provide cover for chip mods.

You will use more diesel, wear your tyres our more quickly, additional stress on all engine and gearbox components.

No you won't, you can expect a 5 - 10 % improvement in economy if you continue to drive your car in the same manner, more torque means that you can stay in a higher gear longer.

My TDi improved 10% overnight

I insure my modded VWs with Brentacre in Swansea

I have a 2001 VW Golf TDI 150 which I have had chipped up to 180 BHP. Goes like the clappers but if driven sensibly, according to trip computer can return up to 67 mpg!! However accurate the trip computer is I dont know!
It cost £420 but it was money well spent, at least you are getting real power gains for your money as you could spend same amount on exhausts, airfilters etc for very little gain!!
