Parking at East Midlands - Walton2
Having booked next summer's holiday travelling from East Midlands we didn't take up the travel agent's offer to book parking at the airport for £73.00 (though could still if we wanted to) as it seemed expensive. We've usually paid around £55.00 at Manchester, but all the off-site parks come up with £79.00, which smacks of a cartel IMHO. Anybody able to recommend one? I'd be happy with 15-20 minutes transfer time for a decent saving. Many thanks.

There is some distant off airport parking, something to do with the Donnington race circuit SFAIK. Probably not available when there is a race on. I wouldn't park there to save £6! The transfer wil be 30 to 40 minutes including the waiting and that will be each way.

We are flying from EMA in November. A weeks parking off site is about £30. My parents booked it and they are away, when they get back I'll repost. Remind me in two weeks!

If you do use the official parking leave plenty of time - it took my dad and a friend nearly an hour last year from parking the car in the airport car park to getting back to the terminal. A combination of being as far away from the terminal as is possible - too far to walk and lack of buses in service (EMA were using Manchester cast offs) meant a long wait. They only just made check in.

Airparks or APH I think they are called now operate from Donnington Park. Always use them. Its about a 5 min transfer on good size minibuses.

Are you sure they parked in the official parking? East Midlands car parking is right next door to the terminal. As a East Midlands regular (I live in Nottingham) out of all the airports in the country, East Midlands takes me the least time to get from the car to check in (around 5 mins walking.) In fact, my last flight took me 35 mins to get from passport control to my house. Good airport.

Some of the parking is handy, but a lot of it isn't and it's the luck of the draw depending which zone is in use at a particular time (Leeds Bradford is the same - get zone 1 and you can walk, get zone 4 or 5 and you have to walk half the length of the runway). Last time we used it we were right at the far end of the official car park - I think it backs on to the Donington circuit. On return at about 11pm we waited half an hour for a courtesy bus.

Just looked on Google Earth and the new car park is located to the south west of the end of the runway - 1.5 miles from the terminal entrance and just over the fence from the motor circuit. This is where we were directed to.

I just had a look at google earth too and it is really out of date around EMA!!! There are car parks everywhere now!!
Next time, give us a shout and you can park at my house and I'll give you a lift!! lol :)

Did you know that Nottingham East Midlands airport has a Derby Postcode and is in Leicestershire?! Nearest city is Derby too.

For reasons I can't go into here, I wouldn't recommend the airport parking at East mids provided by BCP. I and family have experiences with this, which I can happily share via email for those interested.

Not that I am against such companies, I have used APH at Birmingham (Coleshill) without problems for B'ham intl.

I'd also recommend the APH parking at Hams Lane,?, Coleshill.
The comparable parking at Nottingham East Midlands and Manchester is much more expensive.
Last time I checked, Robin Hood Doncaster did not even seem to have any off airport car parking - has this changed yet?
Birmingham is our airport of choice from Chesterfield.

"parking at the airport for £73.00 "
At that price, depending on where you live, would a taxi be cheaper and more convenient?

I flew to Prague from East Midlands in February and parked on one of the airport sites. It was cheap (less than £30 for six days if I recall) and safe and 5 mins from the plane. Couldn't have asked for more really.

This is it.

I also agree with the post about Hams Hall above to fly from Birmingham. 15 mins from the airpport, secure, efficient pick up etc, and not too expensive.

Just paid £40 for one week there.

Thanks for all the replies, had computer problem and now can't access the site from work so haven't been able to catch up. Will check out some of the suggestions.

Don't you have a friendly neighbourhood mincab firm that you can use?
Unless you live quite a way from the airport, surely your local minicabs will do the return journey for less than £79? And drop you off at the terminal building.

And (I know, you shouldn't start a sentence with a preposition) pick you up, on your return at the terminal building, instead of trailing round some huge long-term car park.

And help you with your cases.

And you can relax on the return flight, with a glass of something, knowing you haven't got to drive.

What a shame you don't live in darkest Surrey - because I could give you the name of a very, very, nice man.........................

Not sure about this - an extra 70 odd miles travelling on the A42/M42 is not my idea of fun, particularly at rush hour! Must take over an hour extra sometimes.

From Chesterfield I'd take the train to Loughborough and the airlink bus/taxi to the airport.

Of course anyone else could also park at Loughborough station £15 a week and take the bus as well!

I live in Wakefield so i think it'll be too expensive as I investigated the airport taxi route for Manchester it worked out about the same or slightly more than parking

Ref. Doncaster Airport, I don't believe there is any off airport parking as yet. I live not far away and I haven't noticed any advertised. It may have something to do with the current volume of flights, once this reaches a certain level someone will set up the a service. I have used the on-site car parking, and this is extremely convenient, just across the road from the terminal building.
