the navara is a turbo diesel

pulls away in first, full power, into second, full power, into third, no power, struggles to get enough revs to get to fourth, then fourth the same, get into fifth gear, pulls like a train,100 mph, no clutch slip, just low power in 3rd & 4th, as if there is a sensor on the gearbox limiting the power.

Could you elaborate a little?

Is your Navara petrol or diesel for instance?
What exactly happens in 3rd and 4th that doesn't happen in other gears?

The more information you provide, the more feedback you're likely to recieve.

That sounds really strange. I'm baffled.

Any noises or such with it?

Can't say I have encounterd a problem like this 1 before but I have to be suspecting gearbox problem? But if so I would be expecting noises too.
nissan navara - southcoast_flier
no noises, gearbox is sweet and smooth, just power loss, as if the turbo is being told not to work, but put in fifth and zooms away puts you back in the seat

Is the performance of these cars limited in reverse?

Does your reversing light only work in reverse, or also in 3rd and 4th? i.e., would a reversing light switch fault cause this?

What happens if you go to 70 in 5th then change down into 4th?
nissan navara - southcoast_flier
reverse, good point will check, at 70 mph in fifth, then down to fourth, still no powerjust stays at the revs you change down to, then creeps up

02 reg navara 2.5 td, import, full power in first and second gear, struggles uphill in third and fourth, slowly rev counter creeps up, put into fifth and back to normal full power, pulls like a train, change back to fourth, no power, into fifth away she flies, clutch and gearbox all sweet, no noises or clutch slip, its done 90,000 miles, one owner full nissan service history, its as though there is a sensor telling the turbo or ecu not to operate at full power at a certain criteria, like in reverse for instance, but goes fast in reverse.

{Moved to existing thread you started, as relates to the same problem. Also to cut down on the same answers being provided again - DD}

Any chance of getting it hooked up to a diagnostic computer?

Defintely sounds electronic rather than mechanical...unless it's something to do with restricting power when in 4x4 mode or something? Well out of my depth here though.

I've this same problem. 03 Navara Auto 2.5tdi. Power loss in 4th and 5th. Did anyone work out what the problem was?

Above post should say Manual gearbox - not Auto.

got a simular fault with a friends nav...... pulls well but in third keeps kicking back on the power when under load ....... was thinkin the pressure sensor on the intercooler or the intercooler leaking air around the pipes.... but why only in third..... now i'm thinkin it must be a bad earth ...... has anyone got to the bottom of this fault yet?????

I had the same problem with a 05 plate, it is the neutral position switch on the gearbox, it works in conjunction with the fast idle warm up switch in the cab. Normally you can tell if it is this switch by pushing the gear stick towards the dashboard when in 3rd or towards th drivers seat in 4th and you should feel the power increase. I just unplugged the sensor on the gearbox and it has run as sweet as since.
