Audi A4 (2000) Aircon fan not working - tyre tread
My wife's A4 has recently had the aircon re-gassed and was working well but the fan has stopped working.

I tried to check the fuse indicated in the manual and all appears in order but the wife says that the fan works intermittently and when it cuts in she hears a repetitive clicking noise which I think may be a relay. Anyone know where this is likely to be located?

Any ideas of anything else I could check or likely causes before I elist the services of an auto sparks?

Engine fan, or blower fan?

Blower fan

I'm pretty sure that this is a relay problem and I have accessed the drop down panel under the steering column where the relays are located but I can't figure out which one is the heater fan relay.

Can anyone help please?

Firstly check the fuses on the end of the dash by drivers door,I think the blower fan is a 30a green. If all ok, I would drop the glove box & trim to gain access to the blower motor and check for power and earth to the 2 push on connections.Blower motor fault is a fairly usual problem on these.

Thanks eleckie doctor, I'll have a look - now that the weather has turned colder it has become more important to resolve as my wife is feeling the cold having no fan to distibute warm air!

In case its not the blower itself, any idea which relay so I can check that too?

Just an update in case it helps anyone else.

It wasn't the relay, it was the blower motor.

The armature had worn and although i got the motor working again it was only for a few days.

Audi specialist wanted £280 for the motor and £80.00 to fit, both plus VAT. - total = £423.00

Bought an identical Audi badged motor off e-bay - brand new - £80 + £10 P&P and fitted it myself in 40 mins (albeit i had already taken it out once so i knew what I was doing).

Does anyone know where the relay for the A/C fan relay is located?I am talking about the relay for the Auxiliary electrical fan located at the front of the engine. I was under the impression that a relay was used in the circuitry to determine fan speed.

That is not a relay it is a dual thermal switch and is mounted in the back of the radiator or in the bottom hose. There are two relays that use the signals to control the fan speed, fuse 2 and 3 on the 8 relay carrier. This fan, in this present weather will only come at idle or if running very hot. Regards Peter
