Quad 'Bikes' and Quad 'Cars' - Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}
I've seen both types on the roads round Chesterfield recently.
Are they the same things legally? One is car like with a roll cage and the other like a four wheeled motorcycle. Tyres look the same on both.
Hard to believe the little car-like buggy passes all the safety tests especially without the occupents wearing helmets..

Dunno, but what you really want is one of these....

Actually, just browse that website. Want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want, want.

I saw a bloke riding a quad bike without a helmet in the centre of Chesterfield a few weeks ago. Thought it was strange as you normally only see people riding them with helmets on. I presumed it must be the same as riding a trike in that you dont need a helmet?
But having thought about it recall years ago seeing a farmer riding a big 4x4 quad through the middle of Bakewell, wearing only a flat cap... Theoretically they should not be as easy to fall off as a motorbike, but just as easy to go over the handlebars?

:o)
Quad 'Bikes' and Quad 'Cars' - AngryJonny
Just ask Ozzy or Rik Mayall how dangerous they are...

In my opinion, if you're sat outside the vehicle common sense says you should wear a helmet even if the law doesn't. But if someone doesn't want to wear a helmet then that's fine - it's just Darwinism in action.

The car like buggy thing sounds like a Q-Pod. They are definitely legal and Devon and Cornwall Police run one.

Ditto quads, as long as they are lights and plates etc.
Quad 'Bikes' and Quad 'Cars' - bell boy
theres quite a few of these near me and the four wheel ones are in my opinion dangerous ,on the road they seem to have permanent 4 wheel drive and when they come out of a right turn they always cock the rear wheel up ,none of the riders wear lids.
My local autotrader is full of adverts for them,i think they are superb for what they were intended and nothing else (sheep stealing ;-o )

Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God - you get the idea.

I'm sorry Mark - couldn't resist. I could do nothing else with my life but I must..nay - need a Quadski.

Thinking of going into the Church Adam? Be a Catholic and minister to Poles. It's the only growth market in the field here unless you're a Muslim.

Why for heaven's sake do you want one of those things? Fine for collecting firewood in muddy woodland, but for what else?

>>Be a Catholic<<

I am Lud!

>>minister to Poles<<

Hey - maybe that could be my new job!

>>Why for heaven's sake do you want one of those things?<<

Because they look like the most awesome thing ever. EVER! Imagine screaming around everwhere on one of them? Walking the dogs need not be a chore anymore. I could go to Formby beach with their leads attached and just belt up and down the beach all day whilst they have the time of their lives!

Naturally I'd need a big 4x4 to tow the trailer it was already sit on - I'm thinking a Landcruiser - but not in blue. That's so 3 years ago.

I have absolutely no idea where I was going with that. I can't make any sense of that at all. I need a lie down.

Make it a flatbed stretch 6-wheeled Hummer. Then you wouldn't have to bother with the trailer and you could annoy NowWheels by driving everywhere in it, only taking to the quad thing to get from the Hummer to the door of your house.

Special straight-through exhausts on both of course, banks of coloured spotlights and floodlights, winches, CB radio aerials and of course comprehensive, jagged, sharp-edged bull bars. Flashing blue lights behind their radiator grilles and a discreet illuminated notice saying:

Beware! Trainee sky pilot on call!

Yes sir. Sorry sir Mr No sir.

Lud - I really like your thinking. Only thing is, I've had cool cars up to now and I wouldn't want people getting the wrong impression of me if I bought a Hummer. At least you know where you are with a Landcruiser.

Most of the bikes and some of the buggies don't have a rear differential which is no big deal on softer surfaces but not at all nice on twisty tarmac at any decent speed (up to 60 mph on a big Yamaha). You also have to order the extra front rack if you want to get more than one sheep on and there's no room for the dog.
Quad 'Bikes' and Quad 'Cars' - bell boy
good one Harmattan

Reckon the Quadski could be good if you lived in Ushuaia though as has been alluded to it is not made to rescue sheep or seals so is only a toy, in which case a Yamaha YZF 450 motorcycle and GP1300R wave runner would be both more fun and, I dare say cheaper, for info the latter has a 1300cc 3 cyl 2 stroke producing 170 bhp!

I have ridden quads and while they are enjoyable and useful on a farm two wheels are so much more fun off road.
