Mobile motorway drivers - geoffken
Having had the "V" sign from the last 2 drivers I tooted at for using their phones whilst on the motorway how about a name and shame topic.
To avoid "naming" perhaps we could jumble letters and numbers but may be identify the car.

Whilst being taken from a hopsital in Italy to the remains of our hire car to collect luggage after an accident, by Italian motorway police

- Blue lights flashing (pretty sure anyway)
- Travelling at 140kph in a 90!
- Fast approaching cars in front that had to move over - quickly
- Mobile of driver rings and he unfolds it and starts chatting... !!

And there was a police officer in the front passenger seat who surely could have answered to phone.

With a neck brace on and travelling with police after a bad accident (head cut open, CT scan, etc.)... decided not to put seatbelt on due to discomfort. Was I regretting it. Absolutely!

So it's not just the UK drivers.

No, it isn't.
French drivers - particularly young girls - like to do it while negotiating junctions in town centres.
Sometimes - I kid you not - while they are riding mopeds...

I was driving home from shooping this afternoon, when i saw a Porsche, coming from the opposite direction, i noticed as it became nearer he seemed to be not driving in a straight line, more like wriggling about a bit, as he passed i saw he had his right hand up with a phone in his hand trying to talk to his mistress probably "yes im comin over my dear!" what an idiot, you don't want to have an accident in one of them very expensive!!!!!

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)

I have to ask just 1 thing about mobiles and driving.

Whats the difference between a motorist on his mobile and a police person on their radio?

And before everyone throws their stuff at me, I don't agree with mobile use in a car.

Police radios usually involve a matter of life and death.

Police are usually good drivers. (Usually)

Police radios are nearly always earpieces now.
Mobile motorway drivers - robcars
Police radios are occasionally used in life and death situations, but normal traffic cars not on blue light conditions are seldom on way to such an event.

Only a few police drivers actually get any better training than ordianry motrist.

They may be an earpiece but they need a mike too !

What's the difference between a phone and a lit cigarette in a car? I have to confess to using the phone to make quick calls when sitting in a queue of traffic, but never when going faster than about 2mph.
Mobile motorway drivers - Adam {P}
You just said it yourself - normal traffic cars not on blue light conditions are seldom on their way to such events. Yet they're the highly trained ones. Besides which ,it's academic - their partner invariably does the radio.

I'd rather trust an untrained cop with a radio than my mate with his mobile ;-)
Mobile motorway drivers - robcars
i actually cant see much difference !

A lot of the driving by police around here is as bad as normal drivers. I just assumed they were on their radios. Maybe its just bad driving ?

I don't know whether your comment was serious or not, but either way - no.

DD.

DD I obviously agree. Posting real reg not right and "jumble" them (1) what's the point and (2) too many permutations to know the real one.

If someone took real reg and thought something will be done (yeh right) then report to police.

Better to wait for changes to law and the fines (£60) and more importantly, points on licence. They are on the way... or so I thought until someone probably corrects me. The tiny number of motoring related police might act then.

But then here's a thought... with ANPR cameras getting everywhere, what about some image recognition software for use of mobile :-)
