We have quite a few of them around here - there's just a slight bulge on the road surface, but they look solid as you approach.
A similar idea is used for approaches to roundabouts, with the slight bulge on each strip creating a warning click, click, click as you pass over them.
Much more sensible.

Well round here we have biodegradeable roads .......

Lol - same round here too C.
The worst is a fast dual carriageway that trucks use the inside lane of. Picture the worst, rutted inside lane of a motorway you can imagine, and then make it worse by a factor of 5. THe wheel gets snatched out of your hand - so much that the inside lane is effectively dangerous and ununsable. I've gone to make loads of overtakes only to have the wheel snatched back and the car dragged into those ruts.
On the subject of the signs, what a fantastic idea! Of course, there are some logisitcal issues - namely what to make them out of. My first thought was apples but the birds will be off with them and they'll become unreadable after about an hour.
What about those topiary hedge thingies - even the drabbest of areas would look great.
But then of course...they'd last for a while - I think the planning is best left in your capable hands.

There was a guy writing in one of the car mags recently who reckoned he once drove his Lamborghini Gallardo from J8/9 to J11 of the M4, in lane 1without once touching the steering wheel or leaving the lane. The wheels were a perfect fit in the truck ruts.
Hitting these on a motorbike is not funny though.
Cheers
