Whoops! I don't recommend storm chasing unless you're sure that your car is waterproof.
You could grow cress in my front passenger footwell...and there's a sloshing noise coming from somewhere! All good fun though :^D

You've still got the windows open to let out all the heat.

I was on the M25 / M3 in that storm! Hadn't driven in the like for years. Floods on the M25 near the M3 junction, traffic on M3 down to 30 mph because of rain / surface water.

Bet there's still a hosepipe ban...:-)
Something very rare here oop North...

Wot storm?
There was very heavy rain in Kingston but where I live near the Hook underpass on the A3 we had a couple of short bursts of moderate rain lunch time and late in the afternoon else I was busy in the garden the rest of the day.
There was lots of thunder and black , black clouds all around.
Now I know who caught that lot.

you weren't coming towards me by any chance?. I was following a transit in the thick of the rain today in weybridge, it went through about five inches of standing water... and threw it into the fully opened window of an oncoming vectra!
|
My wife said it had rained a bit between Dorking and Chessington on the A24.

:^D Fantastic.
No we were around Chobam and Egham - the bridge at Chobham by the parade of shops must have had 3ft of water at it's deepest part in the middle where high vehicles are supposed to go. Saw a Vauxhall on the back of a truck there - there's always some clown that has to try it!
|
Weird this flash flooding in Surrey, a couple of thursday's back Walton on Thames and weybridge was bought to a total standstill by a deluge. It took me over 50 mins from Painshill roundabout at Cobham roundabout on the A3, to Oatlands near Weybridge about 5 miles, with all roads flooded, normally takes less than 5/10mins, and yet my parents 8 miles had only a light shower

If you drew a line north and south through woking, then west of the line was very heavy rain and chaos, and east of the line was just heavy rain in bursts. I drove throught the line a few times yesterday afternoon. THe rain was so heavy in the brookwood/ash area the railway lines were flooded and Southwest trains (due the third rail) could not get through, First Great Western DMU's could and did get through. (junior was on his way back from reading)

Is there anything I should be checking after yesterday?
Have put dessicant packs in to take care of the water. I'm curious about the bodywork and mechanical side of things. Huge puddles that catch you by suprise at 60mph feel terrible for the car!
I was most impressed to see a new Mini still going with the water nearly reaching the headlights at one point, with the 'bow wave' from another car!
|
|
And according to some of my colleagues, some roads around Camberly/Farnborough/Frimley/Ash/Brookwood, are still blocked this monring.

Yep - friend is working in Chobham today and has told me there are quite a few stranded cars! It must have kept raining there as there were none yesterday even in the middle of the downpour!
|
My parents live in Chobham, but are not again flooded fortunately. My mother was saying on the phone yesterday that they needed some rain to fill their empty water butts. Her prayers were obviously answered.
|
There's a road in VW, between either Chobham or Chertsey, I forget which - but yesterday I saw the road basically funneling the water, as if designed to do so...straight through someones gates, down their sloped driveway....and straight into their front door!
|
They assumed "most expensive"="best quality"
Quite wrong of course.
Elmbridge, ie Walton on Thames has a shopping centre that looks like a Hezbolah stronghold in Beirut after the IDF has bombed it for 25 days,
And motoring link, quite the most badly designed car park over Sainsbury in the history of motoring. Its always full because people cant find their way out.

That's bit generous isn't it?

We had just left Chessington World of Adventures when the heavens opened. Brother in law, wife and kids were stuck on Dragons Fury ride in hailstone downpour.
He he!
|
Yet again more flash floods today in Surrey . Got on the M3 at Sunbury junc 1 around 14.00, double wiper speeds and puddles everywhere, fortunately by the time got to Junc 3, dry as a bone- why so much localised estremely heavy rain
|
Staines seemed to have been hit quite hard when I drove through there on my way to Windsor earlier.
|
Amazing just how much chaos one afternoon downpour causes. I was in the US last month nr Philadelphia, where it rained solidly for three days. Didnt stop anyone getting anywhere, the roads coped admirably.
|
This is Britain though, where any change from the 16 degree drizzle median is an enviromental disaster.
|
Er, only a small amount of rain in Esher today; any more probably isn't allowed!
|
We had considerable rain during the day on the Western Costa del Sol today - almost unheard of in August.
OK now tho' -we went out for a meal this evening and sat out in the open!
Roger. (Costa del Sol, España)

Hold on there guys
We get snow in surrey for three days every 4 years. You really expect a fleet of snow ploughs on standby?
WE get a tropical monsoon 5 times every ten years, you really want LA style emergency water channels slashing through Esher high st?
This is a moderate climate, hence our preparations are resources are moderate.

Good point TVM. We still seem woefully underprepared for even the moderate stuff our climate sends our way (Wrong type of rain for the trains to run, anyone?)
|
watch out for the wet leaves on the road as well, me and my Honda took a short trip to the ground on the way back from work this afternoon, prefer driving on snow!
