just a quick question on the rain sensative wipers....
when on 'auto' they seem to work fine and speed up/slow down where necessary. but every now and again dont seem to sit properly when they reach the bottom. Theres a kind of judder and a click from the relay. Is there a way of reparing this or does it need the relay?
thanks

any takers on this?
Does it sound like the relay as the relay clicks when the wipers judder?
Thanks

Do they park properly when you use them in normal/continuous mode and then switch them off?
|
yeah they work fine when in continuous mode theres a relay click when it judders which leads me to think its the relay but i was wondering if theres any other options.
Im having a new windscreen fitted this week so maybe the sensor could work better somehow when its changed?

When you have the windscreen replaced, have a look at the two little clear gel pads on the rain sensor. They might be a bit dirty or dislodged (unlikly but possible). Make sure the sensor is tight against the glass on its mounting brakets, and that the little window in the obscuration band is well cleaned.
Also when the sensor is on the screen, switch it on and from the outside look into the sensor at approx a 45 deree angle, you should see a little light, if the light is red/orange then the sensor is working fine, if the light is green the sensor is in a fault mode (yes I know that sounds the wrong way round)

It seems a lot of the problems with rain-sensitive wipers on the 306 seem to come back to the wiper motor itself. Certainly the partially-functioning wipers on partner's daughter's car were sorted by our indie's correct diagnosis and replacement of the motor. So, if all the other possible causes are eliminated, I suggest that's the one to try.

thanks for the replies
i noticed the orange light on the sensor so i guess thats working fine. It goes in for the windscreen today so ill see how it is when i get it back.
Then ill start to eliminate from then on

My 306 had this problem (judder when wipers coming to a halt) and was diagnosed as a faulty motor. This was replaced under warranty and lasted 1.5 years until it went wrong the same way. Fixed again under warranty, lasted 1.5 years, then went wrong again.... etc. Suggest there is a design fault with 306 wiper motors or some problem with them getting wet or something.....

thanks for the reply
I was wondering if the motor is the problem how do i get this diagnosed?
Id like to have the rain sensors its a nice extra but would it be possible to get a relay to have normal intermitant wipers?
or even disarm the sensor via the fuse or plug etc? i dont fancy forking out for a motor unless i can get one of a breakers and hope for the best!

Sorry to hear of your woes. In the case of SWMBO's daughter's car (see previous post) my reliable indie made the guess it was the motor at fault and apparently had some arrangement with wherever he got the new motor from that he would try it and if it didn't solve the problem he would return the part. As far as I know there is no setting that you could achieve for "normal intermittent wipers" on these cars without a lot of rewiring. The system as designed either works fully or not. If you got a motor from the breakers you have the possibilty of either getting a motor that's OK but doesn't solve the problem, or a motor that's duff. It does seem to be a bit of an issue with 306s. If it was me I might take the chance and get a new motor. Best of luck, anyway. Let us know what happens.
