brava gears jumping out - jds
hi all
my wifes fiat brava has a problem with it jumping out of third gear with plenty of rattling, sounds like something loose. all the other gears work fine.
it goes into third but once it gets upto 28 - 30 mph it jumps out , just pop it into 4th and fine apart from some rattling.
what do you guys think? where should i look ? do you think its the gear selectors rather than the gearbox?

Sounds like a worn 3rd and 4th synchro hub. The cheapest solution would be a replacement second hand gearbox, or re-conditioned one.....

Personally I'd go for the cheapest option, just live with it until it gets really bad. At the speeds that its happening you should be changing up a gear anyway, so it sounds like its just annoying mostly, so I'd put off replacing the gearbox for now, unless you are planning to sell it and the work would increase the selling price by more than the cost.

And as it's not a serious must fix now problem it means you can wait for a replacement box at a good price, scrapyard, ebay can be good sometimes as well.
