Are you 100% sure its the immobiliser causing this?

Try the spare key.

Check for any blown fuses in the fuse box.

Check the battery has a decent charge.

Call an auto electrician.

my thoughts too never seen a 94 astra with a factory immobilisor but thats not to say this one isnt an import with one fitted?
take off lower cowling and see if there is a transponder (a black thing with wires attached) clipped very near to the ignition barrel (where key goes in)
maybe this has an aftermarket immobilisor?
as said are you sure its not a duff battery?/starter?/ignition switch etc?

How about re-asking your question, but not upsetting the swearfilter this time.

Car I would imagine. CD would be the model (trim level) of the Astra.

Mild expletives only get partially deleted, but more "hard core" expletives get totally obliterated - just like above. That's not an open invitation for anyone to test it, btw.

CD ? That's what I thought........probably no CD deck on a car that age. Doh.

Not knowing the original message I have to say that to be fair, the swear filter does have a mind of its own. I've had entire paragraphs blasted when the content was quite unobjectionable.

Wondered why most of my message didn't appear but I didn't swear !!!

The problem I am having is that the key won't turn in the driver's side door. It will turn in passenger door but will not open car. I managed to get through the boot of the car (this stopped working off central locking a while ago) but this set off the alarm (horn and indicators). I tried to turn the key in the ignition and light come on on dash but nothing happens. The headlamps and electric windows work but doors still won't open even from inside. Tried removing central locking fuse and opening doors manually but this didb't work either. I have had to disconnect bettery to stop alarm.

Any ideas what's gone wrong

The model of the car is 1.7td CD (Isuzu engine model)

Your car is deadlocked - you won't be able to open it by pulling up the buttons. The ATWS system sounds like it is working correctly. This sounds like a mechanical problem in the lock itself.

Somehow, you are going to have to get into the innards of your driver's door. You might be able to access the levers on the door latch using some bent welding rod with the window fully down, and get the door open. You may have to take the door card off from inside - which, without being able to open the door is tricky!

Then, once you have access, take the door handle and lock off.

You will probably find that the disc/cam and roller on the end of the lock has failed and jammed. These are available seperately from Vauxhall (about £10 IIRC). Rebuild the lock, and test that it works properly before refitting.

Woo hoo! it's fixed. Blathered the the lock in WD40 from both sides and it's working again (for now at least). Betty (the car's name) lives to fight another day.

Now the lock is working again, grease up the lock properly, as WD40 will dry out and you'll be back to square one.

This thread should help you. Pay particular attention to Cyd's comments.

if i can make a comment ive stopped cleaning locks out with wd40 these days ,
I find if i take the lock out and blast it with brake cleaner in aerosol form it takes out all the old wax and grease and allows you to get to the underlying problem which is usually seized tumblers.
Once you have freed these off you can use white grease and refit the lock.

Cheers will make sure I grease the lock in the next few days.
