In my wanderings around an Asda store this morning I came across 5ltrs of Asda Diesel oil 15/40 API/SL
A3 B3 for £5.96.
Bearing in mind it seems to satisfy the criteria for most cars including Turbos is it good value for money or safe to use?

So long as it meets the required specification I don't see why not - supermarkets buy in bulk hence lower prices.
But have you tried your local motor factors?
Most will sell to the general public and, quite often, at trade prices (at least round here).
