02 reg MG ZR.....broken!! - ajo24
Hi there. I really hope someone can help me with my problem.

I own a 02 reg MG ZR+ which broke down the other week. The AA man who came out has said that it likely the head gasket has blown.

Can someone please give me an idea of how much this will cost to repair.

Also can anyone out there recommend any good garages in the Gillingham / Medway, Kent area who could do this type of work.

Thanks a lot in anticipation!!

I know of a few using Lordswood Motorist centre seem happy, although I've been dissapointed in the past.
Very good place is Kings Hill garage up the top of the Kings Hill/West Malling bypass, not cheap but V Good.

Don't really use garages much, but don't expect much change out of £300 is my guess. The actual parts wont be that much, its all labour, and an independant will charge at least £30 per hour. Good luck.

You will also need to get the head checked over in case it's warped/cracked. You may just get away with skimming it but if not your getting into big bucks.

But don't worry - theres no problem with getting parts for rovers!

In this parts will not be a problem but some parts are now becoming very rare and some do not exist ie 75 tourer rear hatches ,door mechs, electrical items, trim, ecus, body panels and more.
I think with the above problem water pump and rad will also need a coat of looking at.

I too have seen a roadside diagnosis by a recovery company before.

There expert said " The battery is faulty, Thats why it wont start & the battery has gone flat "

The fault was ( that took us less then a minute to find ) the main earth cable strap to the engine was snapped, You couldnt really missing it, The big thick black wire hanging there in full view not connected to anything.

Think I would get the expansion tank sniffed at mot test centre before blaming HGF,

But what actually happened? all you said was it broke down-could be any number of reasons why
