Mondeo timing belt change - plant1983
I have a w reg mondeo 2.o and just wondered if the 10year/100k cambelt change is still relevent?

Mine's 6 years old and has done 60k so should I worry about getting it done just yet?

I think the Mk2 Mondeo interval was 80k, but I personally wouldn't trust any load bearing item made of rubber on a car that is over 40k or 4 years old. I'd get it changed now for peace of mind, if it goes, it takes the engine with it and a new engine would be more than the car is worth. But that's my opinion, not based on any fact except seeing many a belt fail at just over 40k in the early days of belts taking over from chains.

Personally i think 100k mles is way too long. Have seen many fail before this time too.

Age is also a factor, dont forget how hot and cold it gets under a bonnet daily.

Maximum 60k or 4 years imo. way cheaper to replace than new engine.

I believe the interval was 5- years. It is a £150 job on this car at a decent independent (this is in SE London) - well worth getting done for peace of mind...

The subject of when Ford Zetec timing belts should be changed has been discussed in the BR many times before.
