Can someone offer a possible explanation why on the way to work this morning, Mum's 05 Ghia Mondeo TDCi 130 momentarily had all it's warning lights lit and then reset all the gauges (mpg, average speed etc, trip-distance)? She's worried by it, but I said it's probably just a loose wire. The engine didn't change...

There is a diagnostics function that causes all of the lights to illuminate and the gauges to sweep a full arc, could be that she accidentally pushed the trip reset at the same time as turning the ignition on / off.

Nope! She was cruising along the motorway at *cough* mph, and suddenly they all lit up, the rev counter died (but the engine didn't seem to lose powr) and the readings all reset. Any other ideas please? Local Ford garage is absolutely useless so trying to avoid at all costs!

Had a similar problem on a Vectra.
It was a failure in one of the CU's that caused it to reboot.
After replacing the CU, and not fixing it, it was found to be a bad ground.

05 Mondeo - still warrnaty not your cost - go to another Ford outlet and tell them the problem. The point of buying a new car is the warranty cover

|
Can't a low voltage trigger this problem? Voltage regulator going USC?

The problem isn't the cost - it's a refusal to acknowledge a fault.

For dealers these days are generally very good, where abouts in the country are you?
Perhaps radio or microwave interferance.
Any dealer could easily check for any present fault codes. If nothing there, unless the warranty expires within weeks I would put it down to experience.

Ford dealers these days are generally very good,
They take some finding, but I agree they are around. There are still truly awful ones though.
Can give you details of one in Hants/Surrey area who looked after my old company Focus for 99,000 miles (and have done a couple of odds and sods on the Mondeo) and never had any complaints. All servicing very thorough, technicians happy to talk to you directly to explain afterwards, and fixed the only fault it had first go and permanently.

|
Well she's in the Bham/Solihull area. I think her dealer is in Sheldon if that means anything to you guys.

Sounds like a typical case of high frequency radio interferance in the 38gig + band it is becoming more common recent articles in the DT motoring have highlighted the problems of cars just dying for no reason and then recovering and no fault is found.
|
Sounds nothing like the "typical case of ..38gighz" unless someone suddenly moved a high power earth the space satelite tracker onto the side of the road of her normal route to work, just for that day.
