you will find that the traders will give you a different story if you try asking them to sell you a similar car to the above at the price suggested.
Look on Autotrader - prices quoted are being asked by traders - so 12-14k is indeed about right. The trader will want £2k or more, so trade-in/auction can't be more than about £10-12k I reckon. Probably a bit higher in the SE though, where punters have a bit more cash...

Look on Autotrader .... >>
as is my wont, i actually did so before i posted my comment. a nationwide search and all.
not a single 2003 325 se auto tiptronic leather <20k miles for <£15k.
yes, plenty of 325td compacts, but not the saloons.

There's actually only 3 cars on BMW's approved used search that match this car's spec (03, 325, auto, leather) and all 3 are near enough £16K. On the basis that it's fairly rare, maybe a BMW dealer (or a specialist) would give a reasonable prices for it?
|
BMW dealers will be dearer. Depends on how close the spec has to be. Sytner Coventry have one with 49k for a bit under £15k, for example. The OP is talking about a private sale, so even with low mileage he will struggle to get anywhere near a BMW Approved Used price.
Following my return from Germany I went to a few auctions last week (not to buy, just to look at prices) and given the time of year I don't think prices are particularly strong at present. I am sticking to my £10-12k estimate. Would be interesting to see what it does sell for...

Yes, I realise all the above. I was suggesting that perhaps he might get a similar kind of price for a sale *to* a BMW dealer as he could get from a private sale (the advantage being it would be a heck of a lot less hassle).

I bought my 04 325SE for 15k a few months ago from a BMW Approved main dealer.
Same spec and mileage as above, only that it has xenons rather than leather.
so, private sale is likely to be around 12k level as many of you have suggested.

Are they not fairly uncomfortable (especially when switched on)?

you said to me "look at autotrader". i did. found no evidence to back your claim. sounds more and more like the iraq dodgy dossier and the forest-gate raid. "belive me, have faith in me, god will be my judge, i know best, it is there, it is well hidden, but the information is only available to us in the secret service bmw auction trade, i am telling you i have credible evidence to back my claim". but then after long and hard search, and a long fought war with dalglish, nothing is found to justify the original claims. go on, find us a bmw to the spec mentioned by the op that is seeling for anything between £10-12k.

I think we can safely say this car is rare, so ascertaining value is difficult, as with anything it's worth what someone is prepared to pay! We have evidence of three at main dealers for about £15k (advertised price, get haggling and see a grand fall off, so that's 14k) and someone else bought a newer model of similar spec for £15k.
With these facts in mind what is the opportunity cost to a purchaser of private sale v dealer sale? £2k wouldn't be overoptimistic, so we are back to £12k again.
