Which Coupe ? P'geout 406 or Volvo C70 ? - isobella greene
I am looking to buy one of the following Coupes: 2nd hand, around '2000' year of manufacture:

1) Peugeout 406 Coupe (3 Litre SE V6 or the 2 Litre SE)
or
2) Volvo C70 (not the convirtable)

I've heard informal warnings against the Peugeout 406 Coupe because of poor reliability, especially Engine Management Unit failures and Air Conditioning problems but I would value your feedback now please.

What do I need to look out for ? Am I likely to face seriously high hidden service & repair bills with these cars ?

Thank you in anticipation of your advice

The C70 is based upon the old Volvo 850 which morphed into the S/V70 square shape before the current V70. Mechnically, should be sound, but the T5 will probably have been hammered. Look for a non-turbo 2.4 or an LPT2.0.

Peugeot - lovely car - but its French...........I'll leave other to comment as appropriate

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

I'd go for the Pug Coupe 3.0 V6 SE model - much better to drive than the volvo it looks 3 million times better.

Me too for the Pug. I would go for the 2.2 HDI though, best of all worlds unless you particularly want the thirsty and huge V6, on which incidentally, doing certin jobs is harder due to access issues.

Without a doubt the Pug - just put up with the little mishaps...
It's one of the all-time great styling triumphs, but when you see what they've done to it now - oh dear, dear.

406 Coupe. Even it turns out to be as unreliable as some backroomers would have you belive French cars are (which I very much doubt), the sheer beauty of the thing will warm your heart when it is immobilised on your driveway.

If I had the room I would be very tempted to buy one of these and keep it as an occasional car for the summer. Bound to become a classic in the future like the 504 Coupe and Cabriolet. Why have Peugeot stopped making cars like these?

Peugeots are basically reliable cars, sometimes little electrical things can annoy but if you buy wisely checking everything works and have a good independent garage to maintain it then you should be in for happy days.
