Electric rear window failure - Touran - Altea Ego
Ok every time I try and wind up my rear windows the anti pinch mechanism kicks in and they wind down again. Happens on both sides. Anyone got any idea?

thanks

PS it happened after I put England flags on both sides. I am really keen to get it fixed as without the windows being up the flags fly off down the road at speed.

Anyone?

Ah, it's so rare when the universe delivers poetic justice it's even sweeter when happens.

Perhaps the controller has become confused? Is there a reset procedure in the manual? Probably along the lines of winding them right down and pushing and holding the button or something. Was on my Astra, anyway.

Why not try German flags?

I think it's trying to tell you something.
Electric rear window failure - Touran - barchettaman
There´s a couple of German ones in the post TVM.

Possibly some dirt in the runners. Or they could just be dry in the ot weather. Try some silicone spray in the runners. I had a similar problem with my sunroof but that was some dirt. However on the Renault you can over ride the anti pich mechanism.

You will never be happy until the trade that thing in for another Renault. Make sure it's the 2.0 dCi though, will put a smile on your face.

This would never have happened if you'd bought a Focus with windy down windows.

Normal service resumed.
Electric rear window failure - Touran - Altea Ego
Well I have temporarily fixed it by taking off the flags. I will wait till BM sends me the German flags and try them. If they work I will stick the england flags over the german ones.

Don't you have black, orange and red marker pens?

And a pair of white undies?
Electric rear window failure - Touran - Zippy123
Think you must have got a Friday one TVM, SWMBO's Touran is nothing but well behaved, but then the back windows use a very high technology crank control mechanism with bio optical sensors.

What other problems are you having with your German masterpiece?

Oh I forgot --- Touch wood!
Electric rear window failure - Touran - Adam {P}
Now you see - if you had a Focus Ghia, not only would you get windy down windows, but you'd get lots of wood that you could touch to your heart's content!

Wouldn't that be "wood"?

>>Wouldn't that be "wood"?<<

If you're going to be picky!

"Wood" is much lighter than wood so if your car comes with "wood" it drives much quicker!

Or should that be "quicker"?

Do you keep a plank handy in the car?

Trim panels use inmould decoration (or inmold as they spell it in the US) with wood pattern. Do a web search and you'll see how it's done.

You really want to know? ooo where do I start.

1/ There is a judder comes in between 1.5 and 2.0k revs in any gear except 1st. Comes and goes ie its intermitant. Different fuels or addatives make no difference. (except Texaco makes it worse)
2/ The aircon (dual zone climate) is kaput. No chilled air.
3/ The radio is kaput on AM (fine on FM) could be radio or aerial amplifier
4/ The rear hatch takes real skill and practise to shut properly.
5/The headlights have a mind of their own. First the L/H headlamp goes out. You stop the car and as soon as you open the door it comes on again. Close the door and the right one goes out. Open the door to fix it and it comes on. They will be fine for ages but then start to act silly burgers like this for a few days.
6/ IN winter the aux engine heater smokes and surrounds the car with a cloud of smelly smoke.
7/ Central remote locking. The two clicks to open all doors (one click for 1 door) varies, works sometimes other toimes it dont.
8 The Info display sometimes turns into a bright orange blob and undreadable, tuen it off and on again and its fine.
9. A rear bulb has gone. I cant get the rear light cluster off to fix it because the screw fixings turn round in the body of the car.
10 The handbrake is next to useless
11 The seat stitching is coming undone and looks like it was finished ny the mr byrite tailors
12 the wipers have a mind of their own. At times they will only work at max speed when going along ( i fixed this one yesterday - it s bonnet switch adjustment)

Is that it? Nope loads and loads of one offs do with the electrical system. You probably need a cray being towed behind in a caravan to log all the abnormal events in the can bus on this thing.

Every trip is a magical mystery tour.

Actually the window thing was a wind up. Tho its an appointment in the diary to be made before they develop a problem.

I dunno if it is relevant, but following guidance was just posted on another website I frequent:

"The Ministry of Health issued an alert at 0900 hours this morning to all male persons with a penis size of less than 3cm. Due to the unexpected heatwave in the last few days a danger to these persons from contraction, de-hydration and circulation has been exacerbated by a viral infection which seems to thrive on the heat. Persons in this category are strongly advised to contact their GP as a matter of urgency. To assist the authorities in identifying potential sufferers it would assist if they would fly a white flag out of their cars or houses with a red cross on it."

Is this true?

I mean....it has been really hot recently but I just put it down to feeling off colour.

Should I get checked out?

You could put up the flags while you make your decision ...

Sounds like the windows just need a re-set.

Lock the car with the key in the door, and hold the key in the lock position for a few seconds.

Should sort it.

If you ever get in again to find out...
Electric rear window failure - Touran - Red Baron
Greasing the runners won't help as all of the grease will get wiped off by the felt in the upper part of the mechanism which will trap dirt even more and then they really won't shut easily.

Seems to me that the guides within the door maybe need a clean or re-aligning.

Oh, and Adam, the colours are Black, Red, Yellow (not orange).
Electric rear window failure - Touran - Brit_in_Germany
I think the Germans would call the colour Gold as in Schwarz Rot Gold.

Many thanks for the advice......This reset method worked perfectly.

So to recap: if your electric windows fail to work as expected, before going to a garage to seek medical help simply use your key to lock the car but hold it in the anticlockwise '9' o clock position for at least 10". You should see the open windows close.
