I'm sure it will be rolled out across the VAG range. The 2.5 is old technology and will eventually fade away. The new 2.7 and 3.0 common rail units are replacements for the 2.5 6 cylinder.

So common rail is new technology? i don't think so! Nothing new about common rail except it's fittment into cars a few year back

Anyone know if this is planned for the Audi A4, it would clash with the 2.5TDi as this has 163 BHP.

My understanding is that it will be available in the A4, and that the current 2.5 TDI gets replaced by the 2.7 TDI from the A6
