Mobile Police Station - Big Bird
.....operating on the A31 Hogs Back this pm.

Prison van style mobile station, camera van (covering both directions) and lots of pandas/traffic bikes pulling over the Beemers etc.
Camera vans are common visitors to this stretch but this is in another league.
Not sure why Surrey police are targeting this road though.

Were they also using number plate recognition eqpt for untaxed/uninsured vehicles?

That will be an ANPR operation. Targeting traveling criminals/uninsured etc. Nothing to complain about there!

Looked like a regular speed trap to me but if it was ANPR all the better IMO.

sorry for the slow reply, got called away

Sounds like ANPR to me, too.

Had an operation like this in Aylesbury a few weeks ago; Iveco van with ANPR cameras poking out of the back and a whole pack of police bikes parked out of sight in a residential side street a little further on.

Suspect targetted, a police bike would pull out and follow them before flagging down in to another side street about 800 metres down the road then making a U-turn and riding back to rejoin the pack.

Seemed to be quite a rate at which cars were being pulled over; though plenty of coppers were questioning and ticketing the drivers the queue in the normally quiet residential side street had built fast in the 30 minutes between my drive in to town and the one back out.
