Morning all.
I've had the Leon for about 18 months, it's on an 02 plate and as mentioned above it's the 110 version. I've recently been experiencing loss of power under acceleration - say, pulling up a hill. This tends to happen around the 3500 rev mark and is noticable by what seems to be the turbo cutting out. The engine still revs but there's a fairly big lack of power/torque. All is well after the ignition is turned off and back on.
The fault that appears on the diagnostics is 'turbo overboost pressure'. I've had the MAF sensor changed and also the valve that controls/operates the wastegate (forgive the ignorance if that's not what it's for, i probably wasn't listening properly!).
Obviously i don't want to change every part related to this fault so any help/tips/ides would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

That 17965/P1557 overboost code is no stranger on any version of the TDi. Worst case [50/50 chance] is that it's the VNT turbo's wastegate arrangement seizing-up; but before spending mega-bucks on a new turbo, it's wise to check all the other possible causes.
As you've already changed the "N75" turbo-control valve; on an'02 plate the MAP/intake temp sensor is one, as is the condition of those small vacuum hoses. Check every inch; they can get split, crushed, chafed, perished - all sorts. The level of vacuum in the whole system needs careful checking by an experienced tech; this is no job for a trainee going "by the numbers." Consider taking it to a diesel specialists.

According to Nortones2's posting in the following thread:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=20445&...f
the 110bhp TDi doesn't have a wastegate as it's a variable-vane charger.

Perfectly correct: if you read the post carefully you'll find that's why the words "wastegate arrangement" and the term "VNT turbo" were chosen.
Instead of puerile sniping at those who are trying to help, perhaps you could add something useful???

Symptoms sound identical to something I experienced in my Leon TDi 110 a few years back - dealer told me it was down to a fault with the electronic injector (from memory, he said three out of the four injectors are mechanical, but one is electronic). They cured it by replacing the injector under warranty, and problem did not reappear.
I think I posted on here about it at the time - if you do a search for posts under my name you might more, my memory about it now feels a little sketchy.

Thanks for the reply, Screwloose. Looks like i'm off to find a diesel specialist - don't suppose you can recommend one in the Newcastle (upon tyne) area?!
As for the wastegate arrangement, if this is seized is it repairable or am i looking at a new turbo?
cheers

I have known people de-seize the "wastegate" by manually scraping out all the accumulated carbon. It's not an easy job to remove the turbo to do it - but then; a new turbo is very expensive - so maybe it's worth a try?
Sorry; don't have any local knowledge of Geordieland. I'm sure someone else will know a good diesel place. Or ring round the local garages/motor factors and ask them; they will be able to tell you who's good.

adb,
Have a good long search on the forum search for power loss on other 110 TDI cars e.g. Audi A4, Octavia, Passat. It might give you some other lines of enquiry. But you've already covered the MAF and possibly the EGR.
Power loss on these seems to crop up a lot, i had it on my Octavia and ran out of patience trying to fix it and PXed it.

Had a look through some of the other threads RE TDi power loss - all of the different causes/cures are making my head hurt!
Funny you should mention the EGR valve though - after having a bit of a poke around there seems to be some chaffing on the underside of the flexible hose that goes to/from the EGR to, well, i'm not sure where the hose disappears to!
The chaffing is almost a split but i can't seem to get a finger in. Could this possibly be the problem - the 'split' being closed when the car's not being pushed hard then opening when the car's accelerating and the exhaust gasses are at a higher pressure?
Or am i barking up another wrong tree?!
cheers
