Tuesday 13th June at 8pm
Venue:- The Swan on the A556 just off M6 J19.

Right seeing as it usually takes several months to get these things organised it seems about the right time to start the ball rolling on the next north west meeting.
Plan is to find out what nights are best for most people and then try to pencil in one particular date that is best for most of us.
I personally can be free most nights with sufficient notice and can get to most places across the North West so all suggestions for venues greatfully accepted and i'm sure i can have some fun trying them all out!
|
Well I'm technically, officially jobless now. (My last exam was yesterday) so I imagine that I'll be available pretty much any day with a couple of days notice.
I can't remember for sure but wasn't it mentioned that at your turn Kev you could hold it a little (little!) further South because you make the effort to come up to us all the time?
All I can say is, I'm so glad you're organising it. After last time I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
|

I'm happy to have it at the Bulls head in Burslem - home of the Titanic Brewery! Actually i've noticed recently there are quite a few people around the Stoke area on here who may be tempted to join us if we have it slightly further south.
|
How North West are we talking here?
I organise a meet with a few Alfa Romeo forums which he hold on the last Tuesday of every month at a pub near Brighouse.
It takes me 45 minutes or so to get there from Liverpool and you'd all be more than welcome to come along, it's a good venue.
It will be changing from Alfa Romeos to all Italian cars this month as a new idea, similar to Ace Cafe in London.
I can give you a few more details; exact place, time, meeting points, contact details etc if you think it would be suitable.
Andy
|
Thanks for the offer bob but i'm trying my hardest to make it more of a slightly less North west meet than an actual Nort west meet!
|
|
I'm Cheshire, near to Stoke, can I come along? : )
|
Where the hell is Burslem?
I knew I should have kept my mouth shut ;-)
|
|
Burslem is somewhere near Stoke on Trent. (somewhere between the Midlands and the North West).
|
Burslem is one of the original Five Towns that make up Stoke-on-Trent, as in "Anna of the Five Towns" by Arnold Bennett. There is an actual area called Stoke, but the city is made up of the five towns plus the newer districts. It's known as The Potteries, because it's famous for.... pottery.
There's a good bike shop in Burslem.
|
|
|
|
I went to college round there. Everybody lives in bottle kilns and wears animal skins but they do have the best balti houses in the country. Naan breads the size of dustbin lids.
|
: ) Not far off! I don't live in Stoke, can I just point out? Sunny Nantwich over the Cheshire border.
What's the difference?
About 30 grand...
Only joking if any Potters are reading.
|
|
Potters with t?internet? Ha!

BH - mon, tue, wed, currently good for me, although I don't know what is happening with work on a day to day basis

Tues, Wed and Thurs fine for me. I'll happily go somewhere near to the M6.
SWMBO is away with the kiddies in middle August (knowing how long these things take to organise!)
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Gods own country.
Biddulph, Stoke on Trent.
Any day, any time, any way...
madf
|
Right it looks like a Tuesday or a Wednesday is best. Trust me it will happen before August - i'm not Adam you know!
How would Tuesday 13th June sound for everyone?
Any suggestions as to where?
|
Where!!!???
You're organising it, Kev - you decide...
Mind you, if can put in my twopenny worth, and considering it should be further south than previously, somewhere near Junctions 19 or 20 of M6.
Say somewhere near Lymm, Knutsford or Northwich. (The Smoker on the A556 between J19 and Northwich?).

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Where!!!??? You're organising it, Kev - you decide...
We could all come round to my place for a BBQ!
That pub on the A556 at Knutsford (the swan) is a possiblility - easy for manchester and also the M6 whilst hopefully not too far for the Stokies!
|
NW to me indicates Cumbria/N.Lancs/N.Yorks triangle.
So. K.Lonsdale then?
|
Yes, but demographics dictate that it needs to be within reasonable striking distance of the Manchester/Liverpool axis...
The Swan seems fine to me and very convenient. It's a hotel now. Does it still do drinks and nibbles?

I'm in West Cumbria - Kirby Lonsdale is a bit too south, but it would do instead of all these other places in the midlands which are being talked about! :-)
Stoke? Surely that's near Birmingham!
|
Surely we are talking about the north west meet? i'm sure you northern monkeys can have a meet somewhere convenient to the highlands.
i presume the swan still does drinks and a bite to eat. If not i'll bring along a steak and kidjey pie to keep adam happy!
|
The last two meets we've had have been in Sale and very close to my house. Both times Kev's come all the way up so because of that, we all said at the last meet that he could choose the next one which is why it's not as "North West" as you'd think.
If there's no steak, I'm not coming! ;-) (That date sounds good to me by the way Kev)
|
|
I would have made the effort to come over but I?m not drinking with any unemployed people Adam.
|
It's never stopped you in the past Dave!

ISSUE - BIG ISSUE Get your big issue here.....
I rent my dog out to big issue sellers Adam. She does a lovely pathetic paw in the air and big brown eyes job. For a cut of your takings.......

So funny RF. I can barely stop laughing ;-)
FOR YOUr INFORMATION, I'm going on an active job search starting from Monday.
So neh neh neh!
|
The Smoker on the A556 is a nice pub, as I recall. Near enough for our pottering friends too.
Unelss we all go to Eric Bristow's pub in Stoke? (The Crafty Cockney!)
: )
|
Well, as much as I'd like to do it again, I'm sorta tempted to give it a miss this time if it's further south than the last one!
How about having it at some nice bar in Newcastle? eh? Come on, you know it makes sense! :-)
Blue
|
Newcastle? Newcastle That's miles away!
If it's still too far Blue then fair enough but I live about 10 minutes away from the last meet....two minutes away from where you got lost on the way home ;-)
If you wanted to still come then you could leave your car at my house and I'd happily drive us the rest of the way to wherever the hell Kev's going to arrange it.
I realise that it was a fair old way for you to come so if you don't want to then fair enough but the offer's there if you want it.
|
Another suggestion (I'm trying to help you guys out) is Mascrat Manor, just off the M6 at J21.
They host a few other car meets, so wouldn't be averse to a number of people turning up.
tinyurl.com/gtm7w
You never know, I might even turn up!
|
Well you managed to kill that off didn't you Bob!
I think Mascrat Manor was actually on the list for the last meet as it happens.
|
Well you managed to kill that off didn't you Bob!
That was the idea...
I think Mascrat Manor was actually on the list for the last meet as it happens.
Cool.
I'm off there tonoght actually to have a wander around the monthly performance Jap car meet.
Not that I drive a performance Jap car, it's a diesel Volvo in fact, but at least it gets me out of the house of an evening!
|
So it looks as if Tuesday 13th June is the agreed date (see it's not that hard Adam!)
Over the next week or so i'll scout out a few of the possibilities and report back on the quality of their meat pies!.
|
Sounds good to me mate.
Let me know if you need any help...sampling the food ;-)
|
|
If you fancy tagging along i had allocated this thursday as my first pie sampling excursion.

Tonight me and Adam have visited the Swan, everything was fine and so this is confirmation of the meet.

BH,
I've added the date and venue to the top of this thread for people to see. *hopefully* it won't change, unlike the last time. I won't mention any names Adam ;o)
|
OK I'll do my best to see you all.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Let's all poke fun at Adam because Kev managed to sort it out in only 40 posts ;-)
Seemed like a decent enough place with lots of room and dead easy to get to off the M6.
I got there early and decided to take a look down this inviting NSL road. Apart from being a great twisty road with lots of open straights, it also has the biggest houses you've ever seen! The front gates to some of them were bigger than my house!
Anyway - it's my duty to tell you that the pie is fine. It was an arduous task, but I did promise I'd test it for you.
|
Yep - I've valued some of those houses. They make me cry with poverty.

See you there

They might be big houses, but they're a nightmare to get out off if you're trying to pull onto the A556. I was at Mere Glof club the other night and someone nearly killed us on the way there pulling across 4 lanes if traffic. Apparently loads of Corrie stars and suchlike live along there. The houses on the A50 to Knutsford are even nicerer...
|
Calling all back roomers in North Manchester (Crumpsall, Blackley, Salford etc etc).
I'm going on 13th June. Anyone want a lift?
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Well if you're offering...
|
Errr since when was Wigan near to Crumpsall?? Eh? Eh?
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

:-)
Sorry - thought it was worth a shot!
|
And similarly if any stokies are too idle to drive you can all have a lift in Kevs Kab!
You have no excuse now!
|
Well - if you can face the indgnity of turning up in a skoda, I'll make the offer.....

Just out of curiosity, how do people get home?
Is some taciturn Mancunian people-carrier driver going to have to trek round the NW until 3 a.m. with a load of well-oiled car freaks arguing about Jensen Button and rival brands of screenwash, and commenting none too quietly on his techniques at the wheel, navigation skills and general attitudes?
I do hope so. I'm sure the long-suffering wives have all made other arrangements for tomorrow night.
|
I'm going to turn up incognito and see if I can work out who's who!
|
A very young giant guzzling pies will be Adam.
No one else will be identifiable.
|
: )
I am going to go, if nobody objects.... it's quite close to me.
|
We will be delighted to see you and any other North West (or indeed anywhere) back roomers.
Adam is easy to identify. He's eating the pies and we are throwing up at the colour of his Focus saloon......
A bientot
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Yes the more the merrier so all you Stokies, Nantwich lot and anyone else from round and about will be greatly received.
We all make our own way there and back in our lovely assortment of vehicles as it's strictly a social event rather than a full on knees up!
For ease of identification i'll be the lad with short blonde hair and glasses wearing an england rugby shirt who turns up in a green 106.
And yes that does mean no Landie Adam - it's slightly sick at the moment.
|
Sorry gents I've got a late finish at work and a very early start on Weds. Even the offer of a lift from Espada can't tempt me.
I trust you'll all be leaving with front and rear foglights ablaze.
|
I'll be there in a nice lilac coloured Honda Jazz.
Kidding - I'll be in my car. It's a nice gold colour in case you forget.
|
Well if I can come along I will probably also be in a green 106 (Key Largo no less!) with a "what were you thinking about parking there?!" sticker on the side*, I am saving mileage on the Fabia as I'm going to Germany next month.
How can you stop me? Look for a (slightly) thinner and (definitely) more hirsute Steve McDonald off Corrie. Same mannerisms and grumpiness as well, so I am told.
* New car park at work. Don't understand the rules yet.
|
I hope this pub that blue haddock has selected has a decent TV for the Brazil game tonight - otherwise the Pug gets it.
See you at 8.oopm
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Didn't have you down as a footy fan Gareth!
If it hasn't we could always make a convoy and go 'cruising' to find one!
See you all there!
|
I'm not really - but Brasil la la la la laaa Brasil......!
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Well - we had the meet last night.
Only 4 people turned up but they were good people at least! There was me, Espada, Blue_Haddock and borasport. Espada turned up in his posh Merc (very impressive!) and blue_haddock turned up in his equally impressive Roland Garros 106 (with white leather interior.)
Kev (blue_haddock) had a massive Sundae with cheesecake, flakes, ice cream and some other stuff in so therefore, that place is highly recommended. Highly recommended!

Sorry I didn't come..... I ended up working till 8:45 and wouldn't have got there till 9:30.
Glad you had fun though! It IS good food there me and t'other half went there a while back.
PS I appear to have bought a Trabant. Discuss...
|
Well we sat outside for ages for stevied and his Peugeot, but decided to call it a day and eat. Adam is a sucker for leather interiors! Give him a Trabant with leather and he'll be happy for oooh... weeks.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

:-)
I've decided since that I like E Class Mercs!
|
I'll let you all know how it goes with the Trabbie....
don't even know how to fill it with fuel yet! (you have to add oil??! Confused already).
594cc of sheer brute power it is.
|
Sorry I didn't come..... I ended up working till 8:45 and wouldn't have got there till 9:30.
Thats no excuse! Borasport didn't turn up till then anyway!
|
In that case my sincere apologies. I was cream crackered though; I'm grumpy at the best of times... and don't want to make a bad impression on new folk! : )
|
I'm grumpy at the best of times...
You will be in very practised company.....

In that case I will definitely come to the next one, work or not!
|
8 is a high number for a meet. We had 6 last time and I thought that was a pretty good turnout!
|
Then only about 8 showed up at the Ace Cafe to meet Growler (over here from the Philippines).
Speaking of which has anyone heard from him recently? We mentioned last night that correspondence from the phillipines had been absent recently.
