Cue some moaner in here complaining about use of funds and police equipment and about how 15 burglars escaped and its all their fault people get caught by cameras.
On the other hand, IMO, its nice to know that nice, friendly, helpful things still happen from time to time.

They happen more often than you might think, but it's only the bad news that makes the headlines...:-)

How is that exactly ??? - the fact that a Police maintained Skoda managed to drive a few miles to church without breaking down like a vintage jag ????? - I just do not see how a police car giving someone a lift makes a mockery of peoples real life experiences with VW.
I would appreciate a view of your thoughts - am I missing something ?

Yes, a bit of gentle sarcasm...:-)

My apologies stuartli - I have just been dealing with a certain satellite tv broadcaster so I was not seeing the amusing side of anything.

It was a tidy bit of PR, well done.

Not a million miles from where this happy event occurred, I was passed on the M4 last week by a by an "unmarked" police Octavia doing a good 20 mph more than I was doing in lane 2, no blues no twos - training perhaps - but fast enough to whip up a sizeable stone which ricocheted off my hitherto "unmarked" (!) bonnet and then smack bang into the windscreen, directly in my normal driving sightline.
So, no, I am not as happy as the bride.
Interestingly enough, although there are four clearly discernible marks fairly close together on the windscreen, the nationally known windscreen company currently advertising on Classic FM can recommend no action - other than a new windscreen!- on the grounds that the marks are too small to treat!

Their diagnosis was no doubt justified. There is a lower limit of size below which it is not possible to satisfactorily fill a hole in any surface ~ take road surfaces for instance. After 80k miles of mainly motorway driving the windscreen of my last car was peppered with "clearly discernible marks". The increased incidence of untreatable windscreen damage is one of the drawbacks of using dual carriageways.

Apology in advance for my ignorance Mr. Snail. Why is this so?
