Whatever you do, don't buy the black one with the silver door handles. You'll look like an undertaker in Toytown.

And don't buy the flat cherry red one or you'll look like Postman Pat!

I ended up with a Doblo 1.9 JTD for 2 weeks last year when on holiday in Spain. I'd booked a Focus but got the date wrong as we arrived just after midnight and the company said it was all they had spare unless I wanted to pay 3x as much for a Vectra.
My mates were in stitches laughing at it and nicknamed it the Sooty Van!
I was very pleasantly surprised with the way it drove - the ride was good, the engine was pretty punchy and it had acres of space for luggage. The interior was rather utilitarian but it was easy to get comfortable and the elevated position gave a good view. The sliding doors and the fact they are not all that wide made it a breeze for parking and getting out of in tight underground car parks, and the swing out tail doors made loading it up (usually with cheap lager) a breeze.
Four of us used it and all of us liked it that much we've booked another one for our summer hols this year! It was a lot more user friendly for holiday purposes than a Focus that we would normally get.

If we viewed cars as utility items like washing machines we would buy Fiat Doblos. Seats five (seven in some versions) in some comfort and space. Basic equipment: aircon, CD airbags. Huge boot for when you need it. Modern economical diesel lump. Three year warranty and at my local dealer, all for 9995 pre-reg 06.
We don't buy though because of image and perceived status. As I get older though, I care less and less what others may think and care more and more about spending my money on things that are more enjoyable and better investments.
It's why we have bought a house in France. It concentrates the mind; new car or France twelve weeks of the year. No contest really.
Still fancy a Lexus though!

Actually i think you'll find NoWheels went for Nissan Almera when buying her latest piece of white goods!

We've rented the non turbo diesel before now. It was so good except for flat out speed that I would consider one for a regular car. The JTD should be almost perfect for ferrying people and luggage around.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
