I just asked a question about the Citroen Dispatch Hdi, but gather the same answer is true of the Xantia/406 etc engines.
Are the 8valve versions of the 90 & 110bhp 2.0 Hdi engines mechanically the same? i.e, from what I can see they are, and if so, it mean I can actually have a remapped chip for a 110 fitted to my 90bhp (well, 94bhp) Citroen Dispatch, giving a final figure of 138bhp rather than 119.
I know it may need an uprated clutch etc, my main concern is engine design and compression ratio differences??!!

No, they're not the same. The 110 has an intercooler, and, I think, uprated turbo (at least!). You will get about 115 out of a chipped 90, but without the intercooler and turbo, won't get near the 138 you can chip the 110 to. If the chipping companies thought they could get 138 BHP out of the 90 unit, they would be advertising it widely....!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Richard - might the 110 have other uprated things like conrods or shaft bearings?
|
According to Citroenet, these are the differences "(90 BHP HDi)Capacity is the same as the 110 bhp model but power is down by 20 bhp since no intercooler is fitted. There have also been changes to the engine management program and a reduction in compression ratio."
I think uprated conrods and bearings were characteristics of the 1.9 TD XUD (90ish bhp) compared to the normally aspirated 1.9 XUD (70ish BHP) but no doubt Richard will enlighten me if incorrect!!

P.S. probably more on Citroenet but I only did a quick search

Cheers Guys.
Actually mine is a 94bhp Disptach, which does have an intercooler (well, at least there is an inlet pipe going from Turbo to a radiator infront of the cooling radiator). so maybe its the same.

Richard,
I'm pretty sure chip tuning companies dont always know what they are doing. Take the Rover 75 for instance.... most companies list a chip for the 115bhp model, and another for the 130bhp model.... The 130 models came out the factory as a 115, and were remapped after at the dealers, therefore you can get a 130 upgrade on a 115 and it works.... A friend who had a lot of involvement with Rover managed to prove this, and got his 115 model chipped to 160 (rather than 135 or so that it should have been)

Good point Neil - but I've never heard of anybody pushing an HDi 90 to much more than 115 without mods - in which case you might as well start off with the 110!
I've never heard of a 94 BHP HDi - this being a Dispatch, is it possibly a Fiat JTD unit, rather than a PSA HDi? Maybe it's just a van unit that doesn't get any 'car' press. Your description is that of an intercooler, though.
Yes the original XUD turbos had uprated conrods and pistons, and also oil cooling sprays below the pistons. I did hear a rumour that the bottom end on the first generation HDi was the same as the XUD (although not the ill-fated DHY engines that liked throwing con rods!) - although I have never substantiated this. Sorry, don't know if the internals of the 110 and 90 are the same - I would expect so though to keep production costs down.

Hi Richard,
Looking at the specs, it looks like the 2.0 Hdi uses the 1.9 bore with the 2.1 stroke, so my guess was that its actually a development of the XUD engines (in the same way the VW 2.0 Tdi is a development of the original 1.9's.
My guess is that the Van uses a de-tuned 110 with intercooler, thus improving low down torque over the non-intercooled versions. Its definatly a PSA engine, infact, the Fiat JTD's in the Scudo are Citroen units with the JTD badge.
The 110 version (actually 109 on paper) has exactly the same power/torque figures as the 110 cars, so this further quantifies my beliefs the 94 version is a de-tuned 110, otherwise why not use the std 90 model.
I guess my van could be a 110 model (I just bought it, it?s a 2001 model), but it feels more like a 94 model. Looks like a call to Citroen to 1. Check BHP, & 2. Check engine differences.
