been looking at this, cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-MEGANE-COUPE-SPORT-1-6_W0QQ...m
looks very nice. Anything i should check for? Is this likley to cost me a bombe in repairs?

If the owner has no respect for pedestrians, as he has parked half on the pavement (the cars behind havent) then the mans a cad i would not wish to meet never mind do business with.
Sorry,.
|
>>as he has parked half on the pavement >>
Then there must be an awful lot of cads in my road alone...:-)
Not outstanding logic for dismissing the potential purchase of any vehicle.

But at least the spelling's ok eh? ;-)
Re the cambelt, check questions, done one year and 6000 miles ago

My daughter was fortunate to own the very first yellow example (N-reg) in the North West (a yellow one was featured in extensive advertising when it was launched).
It followed a Renault 19 two-litre and both cars were on a three-year lease. Both were pretty quick, especially the 19, and handled well.
Neither gave any particular trouble throughout their time with her and, in fact, she bought the coupe from the lease company when the contract came to an end.
It was sold for around £7,900 when she eventually moved abroad.

It needs to have had its cam belt changed. Check the feel and noise of the clutch and gearbox. Front wheel bearings may be knackered.

My 1996 Megane hatch has had no problems other than those expected due to age - new exhaust, new rear wheel cylinders, new water pump (which entails cam belt change). Now done 87k miles. Just before I got it it had a cam belt failure but did no catastrophic damage. 38mpg. Reliable.
|
if its had its belt changed would it be worth that kind of money? I just dont want to buy somthing and end up paying hundreds of pounds to fix it.
Are they good for there mialage? Like would they last for another few thousand ?
|
Non standard radio and buy it now price.. well overpriced, hardly going for a song is it? For me to be interested it would have to be under 1K.
Avoid IMO.
|

Possibly, but the price isn't unreasonable as it stands. And why does it matter if it hasn't got the standard rubbishy stereo??
Sorry to be cynical, but it seems that all too frequently, someone on the site always thinks the price is too high - but try buying at the price they think it should be and there's nowt around. It's a bit like the syndrome where you tell someone the route you followed from A to B, and how long it took - they *always* know a better route and can *always* do it faster!
|
And why does it matter if it hasn't got the standard rubbishy stereo??>>
I like originality and the fact the electrics have been tampered with on a car not exactly famed for its electric reliability.
A non standard radio never looks right does it?
Any (nearly) ten year old car should be under 1k. We're in bangeromics territory here!
|
The interior of the car looks a bit grubby inside and from the description the bodywork is about average for it's age. Service history ends at 88k, i would be interested in finding out the date of the last service in the book to give me a feel of if the car is likely to have been clocked.
Looking on autotrader it seems as if 1k to 1.5k is about the right price for the age and mileage. tinyurl.com/j2ks5

What leaps out as wrong then? Apart from no photo's of the interior?

Clocks say it's done 62k which is low for it's year but no service history to back it up which in my book smells fishy (no pun intended!) The after market 17 inch alloys look heavily kurbed which is not a good sign of it being well looked after. Also when the car has a leather interior i would expect at least a couple of photo's showing it off.
What amazes me is how little effort some people put into creating an advert for their vehicle. When i have sold a couple of very cheap cars i took lots of photos from various angles and made the effort to write out a good looking and informative advert which i'm sure helped the vehicles to fetch more than i was expecting for them.

because if you were quick this one had one bidder on it at the time i posted with the name
ricflair ...........ring any bells?
|
yeah, i bid on it, but the reserve was not met, so i think im gonna leave it. I emailed the guy who told me that the services have been done at renault rochdale and if i contacted them they would supply me, is this possible?
I like the yellow one for a grand on autotrader, but its 70 miles aweay. If it was a bit closer id probably go for it.
|
As a bit of an off topic i was just browsing ebay and stumbled upon this auction which i think is brilliantly composed and should help the car sell whereas the two links in this thread to little to assist the sale.
Just a little bit of thought goes a long way and you can tell the car has been well looked after just by the fan of old MOT's and the folder full of invoices.
|
Kev, are you keeping the auction a secret?

Damn my secrets out now!
Actually i was looking for a Panda 4x4 for a possible project/bit of fun!

For God's sake man - buy a normal car for once!
Like me.

I do hope thats not refering to me Adam!

Well i've got my landie which is the proper toy but me and a mate had considered spending a couple of hundred quid on a bit of a disposable short term toy such as a panda 4x4 that as soon as we kill it we can afford to just weigh it in for scrap.
Strip it, build a basic cage then see how long it lasts!
