Saw the new SAAB 9 5 today for the first time.
That front end: Klingon mother ship or what?
Pass the sick bag!
It's as if they've re-sprayed the front end and forgot to remove the masking tape.
UGLY.
It's a shame because the 9-5 mk1 and mk11(or was it just a facelift?) were quite nice looking cars, especially in estate form.

I'm glad i'm not going mad. i saw one the other with what i thought was some very tacky chrome around the headlights that i thought the demented owner decided to put on there. Turns out it's the manufacturer who's demented!

I saw two this morning: the first was a dark blue 9-5 and it looked terrible - chavtastic almost. The second was in silver, and TBH, it actually worked quite well in that colour. Still would prefer the 9-3 myself though...

Its a shame whats happened to Saab now they are a GM subsidiary. They are effectively now expensive cars with questionable build-quality compared to the German marques they are trying to compete with. I had a new 93SS a while ago and was very dissapointed by the whole experience.
Wonderful seats though, possibly the best in the business.
the seats are not as good as they used to be either.
Funny coincedence I saw it for the 1st time today as well - HORRIBLE. I think they are really struggling to try and make it look a little different while they drag it out a few more years.
It's a shame really because I can't help feeling GM are holding SAAB back. If they just invested in them and let them do what SAAB does best then I would think they could make good & innovative cars that people would buy.
Does anyone have a link to an image?
They all look the same to me.
they've sort of copied the headlamp shape from the bangle 5 series. Ughh.
Saw a couple today - also thought the front looked awful. Also noticed that the back lights didn't have any real 'flow' - looked like the back of a 10 year old Hyundai.....
What is today's Saab actually for? Presumably it's some sort of misguided image exercise by GM, who don't seem to know when to stop throwing away money.
It doesn't seem to have any USP and also seems to be a Vauxhall in a (not very fashionable) frock. What a shame. My mate and I used to have real fun pretending to be Erik (on the roof) Carlsson in a 2-stroke 96.
I think it looks fine in light colours.
I must admit the one I saw today was a dark colour - so you are probably right.
I've seen two facelifted 9-5s head on and initially thought they were Subarus each time; goddam ugly with similar light and grille treatment.

I've seen two facelifted 9-5s head on and initially thought they were Subarus each time;
I too thought it looked a bit like a legacy when i first saw the pictures.
In retrospect, given the aborted Subaru-based SAAB 9-2 I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
I'll confess, I saw the title of this thread and have every intention of defending it and saying "What's wrong with you people? It actually looks rather nice" but I can't. I just..can't.
It either looks hideous, hideously Subaru-esque or the photographer that took that photo is hideously inept.
Gorgeous. Shares the genes to the 99.
I really wish you hadn't said that X. I really felt like we could have been mates.
Actually, looking at the photo linked above, it looks almost bearable.
The one I saw was black and it was truly vile.
I guess that the dark colours contrast and highlight the chrome too successfully.
The more I look at it the more I want one. I wonder if they do a six speed diesel?
The original 9-5 was a nice looking car in its day (last century) but I think it's probably past it now. They're obviously trying to inject a new lease of life into it with a facelift as GM won't give them the cash for a new model. Bit like Rover did with the 800 series...
The 9-3 is a nice enough car, nothing wrong with platorm sharing, most other manufacturers do it nowadays. The 9-3's problem is the quality of the cabin materials, they're not even as good as the Vectras and certainly can't compete with Audi A4, BMW 3, Lexus IS etc

try

Even trying the 360 degree view I still do not like it.
I don't like the chrome strip on the back of the Vectra and Astra either.
As has been said, the 95 looks OK in light colours. I thought the previous 95 looked great in silver or grey.
