Just caught a snippet of the lunchtime news;
Apparently TVR are about to halve it's 300 odd staff and there are even worries over the company's future.

Does this really surprise anybody???
With output at the reportedly two or three cars per week what on earth are the remaining 150 people doing??? I don't think that TVR will exist for much longer. Cannot think of a multinatinal that would but them.
In an industry where large conglomerates are building niche market cars, those that build only niche market cars will go to the wall.

Ford, BMW, VW Audi have all bought our great brands - watch this space as they say:-)

I think TVR still has too many "kit car" connotations for the majority of the car buying public and neither the kudos nor the heritage that would attract any of the major car manufacturers.

While making some stunning looking, noisy, brutal and spectacularly unreliable cars there is nothing there that is of any interest to any car maker. The designers can be bought but thats all you need.

What recession? Tough times ahead for the motor industry, I suspect at all levels though, not just manafacturing.

Would you really call TVR the 'quintessential British sportscar'?

Yet Morgan continues as ever, I believe profitably, and happily planning its centenary in 2009.
- Family company, presumably living within its means
- Giving its customers what they (still) want
- Morgans are probably more reliable than 'Thrills Versus Reliability'
- They don't try to make their own engines
- Someone who wants a Morgan wants nothing else. Someone thinking about a TVR has other choices - Boxster, XK8, used Ferrari or Aston Martin etc.

There are plenty of alternatives! Horse and cart? Sedan chair? Wooden horse of Troy?
