Revving up - Los
My Rover 214i intermitently and espantaneously revs up to about 3000 rpm after 5 min. into a journey after switching off it becomes normal, any idea?
Re: Revving up - Steve G
Not sure with out looking but could be the Idle control valve.
Re: Revving up - David Davies
This problem on the Rover engines is usually caused by a failing engine management control unit-the silver box on the nearside inner wing. Fortuneately they are not hugely expensive (about £120) although later coded versions have to be dealer installed.
P.S.By 'espantaneously' do you mean instantaneously,it would make sense if you do.
Re: Revving up - Mark (Brazil)
I thought he meant spontaneously, but I`m not sure I can spell it either.

Re: Revving up - David Lacey
Distorted plastic throttle housing (throttle body) will be your problem.

New style alloy housing will sort your problems.

Los.....how old is your car? That would be a great help.

Let me know and I'll see what I can do to help.

Re: Revving up - Richard Hall
What kind of cheapskate company makes a throttle body from plastic? Next you'll be telling me that some car makers use plastic cambelt tensioners....
