Anyone out there know where I can get some claybar at a resonable price. I bought some of the Meguires version but find that the spray will easily outlast the claybar, and do not want to waste money on buying excessive spray ?
Cheers

Don't halfords sell it?

I got a couple some years ago from Halfords 'bargain bin' Quite a big chunk it was, only a couple of quid IIRC

What the (PFD) are claybars?

I have a Swissol Claybar bought through another forum. Some people say the Meguiars one is too soft.
For lube, you don't need anything fancy. Just mix some car shampoo with water into a plant sprayer bottle.

Yes, slightly bonkers - a 61 step valeting process no less !!
My wife thinks I am being obsessive having bought a bottle of Carnuba car wax for £8, this guy was using stuff that cost 10 x that amount, not to emntion the high tec paint-depth measuring gadgets etc.

I have the Meguiars clay bar, and I too thought the spray would outlast the bar so I think I?ll replace it with Bilt-Hambers Auto-Clay which requires only water. I use their Auto-Balm, which is great stuff, so their auto-clay should be just as good (see: www.bilthamber.co.uk/autoclay.html ) I've tried using the Meguiars bar with just water as a lube but you have to make sure there is copious amounts of water on the paintwork otherwise it has a tendency to stick to the paint. Perhaps soapy water will work just as well until the bar is finished with.

I haven't understood a word of this thread. What is a clay bar?
|
|
A bar of clay.
|
|
Its a lump of soft clay which you rub over your paintwork using the supplied lubricant. It picks off particles which a normal wash and wax will not take off. Unlike wax it is not abrasive. I used it and it lifted off a lot of dirt, and made the paintwork as smooth as glass. Its also good for the removal of over-spray after a touch up.

Found via a forum search:-

>>DD says...
Thanks, DD - you need to know what you're searching for to find it... So it's a lump of blutac used for removing stuck on lumps of paint.

Well, more so abrasive contaminants like metal, brake dust, fallout etc etc, which embed themselves into your paintwork

All this talk about clay bars is very frustrating for those of us who have a hose-pipe ban and can't even get the car clean!

Daft as it sounds, you are still legally allowed to use a hosepipe to fill a bucket / watering can.

I wondered about that as I used my hose to bridge the gap between my tap and the screen wash bottle the other week. I figured I could certainly argue I was within the spirit of things.
