paint vs powder coat on suspension etc - steveo3002
i have all of the wishbones , axle, subrame ,brackets etc to refurbish

i will be getting them sandblasted and then i could either pain them with something like por15 or get it all powder coated

anyone have any expericance of powder coated bits and a few winters use? the only experaince i have is seeing it peel off springs and arb's i imagine once its chiped thats it as soon as water gets in??

Hello Steve

I would have though a flexible paint system would have been better than a brittle powder coating. This is not my sphere of paints but I feel sure someone will be able to advise something specific.

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.

Yup quite agree, I brought a written off Westfield to rebuild which had been powder coated & it came off in sheets with rust beneath. Paint is much easier to touch up & if chipped doesn't get water travel under it.
After shot/sand blast you need a good coat of quality Zinc primer.

yeah i was thinking at least with paint you can touch up or do localised repairs in situ

were tvr chassis powder coated? i remeber seeing one that was rotten

That por15 is good stuff for wishbones. Seems to stick quite well.
