Only two cars apparantely. Honda Insight hybrid or imported diesel Smart Fourtwo - of which there are only 400 drivers in the UK.

Toyota Prius comes next at 104g/km, which falls into Band B.

The Insight is discontinued, and the Smart diesel is only a personal import, which leaves electric-only cars with very limited speed and range.

Another example of cynical Government taxation policies?

I understand an independent smart specialist is to begin importing LHD diesels to the UK then carrying out the minor mods to enable them to pass the MOT, so supply of them should increase.

I'm also a little confused.... Did the chancellor just shuffle the bands a little, because I see cars like Honda Civic were described as being in the Band A before this (eligible for lowest tax band of £100 and they have outputs of 134g/km which is now band C. ???

Ok so as you say two cars fit the bill, the Honda Insight, which is IMO too expensive to consider and I don't think they have got to grips with the technology yet. Which leaves us with the diesel smart fortwo. Which for me is a real possibility, but there is the problem that it is not a std UK car so you can't get cheap online insurance quotes for it, they will also add a premium because it is "LHD Not first registered in the UK car". And lastly as a personal import will it qualify for UK banding? Or will they class it as a pre 2001 car for tax purposes? (A question for the DVLA maybe).

I also wanted to ask, what "band" are the dual fuel cars from new from Vauxhall and Volvo?

I have in mind the dual fuel Volvo S60, I've been to Volvo UK website and I can't even see LPG mentioned!

I have just found volvo bi fuels are now CNG not LPG, this is really annoying because CNG is nowhere near as common as LPG is. What happened to the LPG from Volvo. I still can't see any emissions information.

OK I have the emissions info for the Volvo S60 Bi-fuel
...........CNG......Petrol
Manual..159.......208
Auto......176.......228

So they won't be Band 'A' then.

Having just checked the Smart websites in France and the Netherlands there is for some reason a descrepancy for emissions.

France Diesel fortwo 101 g/km
Netherlands Diesel fortwo 90 - 95 g/km

SO this needs further investigation and it means you have to be sure of your cars country of origin and it's declared emissions data.

In answer to your earlier question, some time in 2005 I think, the bands were renamed without the thresholds changing. AAA,AA,A,B,C,D became A,B,C,D,E,F. This, plus this year's addition of G, brings them into line with the efficiency ratings you see on household goods. Cars will now display the same sort of colour-coded sticker.

I suppose no one is interested in this, but I have a bit more information.

The Smart fortwo deisel listed for sale in France, Spain, Germany & Austria lists emmisions as 101 g/km

The Smart fortwo deisel listed in Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Italy has emmissions set at 90 - 95 g/km

The reason for this is that the new model (2006) is 101 g/km
the older last years model is 90 - 95 g/km

So it appears those countries are selling off old stock or have not updated their websites. If anyone wants to get tax free motoring they will either have to be very quick in ordering from the Netherlands and make absolutely sure which model they are getting, or they will have to buy second hand from UK or any Euro country (except Netherlands because second hand would be too expensive).

If any company is going to start importing diesel fortwos they are going to be bitterly dissappointed when they discover this.

Also Smart informed me that the reason why we don't have a fortwo diesel is because Smart UK choose not to import them! An absolute disgrace imo, if I want one I should be allowed to order it!

Of course this is all from some email guy at Smart Europe and he could be totally wrong.
