Having changed from a faultless Almera to a Passat in the last 4 months have had my second problem, now with the indicators not working even with the hazard button pressed.First problem was a crack in one of the clutch ?pipes that left me stranded in front of Terminal 3 Heathrow creating a half a mile tailback in the process!
And that was last week!
Im now seriously thinking of a spare car to use whenever this damn thing breaks down or develops faults!Much in the same way one would use a spare wheel when needed!!!
Looking ideally for a car which is reliable, and cheap with low insurance and preferably small(less things to go wrong).Dont care about the looks and image.
Oh and since it will probably stay on some public road when not in use which will hopefully be most of the time, should be least attractive to car thieves!Dont care too much about the age but should be as discreet and attracting as least attention as possible.
Obviously the older model Almera is a good choice, however cant find any cheap ones in my area.
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks.
John

Micra or Fiesta? The mk4 and 5 are Fiesta are very reliable.

I got a Honda Civic 1.4 3 door as a second car last year.
1998 S, 36000 miles, full Honda history paid £2000 from the Honda main dealer (was a trade sale, too old for them to sell as an approved used car) its excellent!

One thing I didnt mention regarding the insurance, will have to do it on my own insurance hence looking for the lowest insurance cost possible!

how much you want to spend? I've always favored the old VW Polo as a cheap an discreet car

"how much you want to spend?"
->Preferably less than a grand.
Dont want to be bothered with the business of trying to sell it off after a few years just want to be able to dispose it off hence the lowest budget possible!

I know it might be painful, but surely you're better off swapping the Passat for something more reliable, rather than than running two cars because one of them is no good??? (IMHO)

Agree with Geneva John. You'd have to tax and insure the spare car, so it'll cost you less in the long run to have just one, reliable, car.
If you were happy with Nissan, a Primera is Passat-size, or Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, Mazda 6 or 626 (depending what age you're buying). Skoda Octavia is another possibility - I know they're also VAG but most owners are very satisfied withthem.
