audi is ok when ticking over but at 2000 to 3000 rpm it goes into the red. stat already changed at great difficulty. i have got an idear but would like conformation.

Isn't there an issue with plastic impeller blades breaking on the water pumps on these engines this might be the problem.

If the thermostat is okay, then it is VERY HIGHLY likely that the water pump impeller has split (made out of plastic), so that the water pump turns, but the impeller doesn't. I'm sorry to say that this is a pig of a job to do as it is so hard to get at the thing.

looks like a am taking the water pump out then.thanks to bikemade3 and roly93, you both are thinking the same as me.

Yes, will be the WP.
I did this job on a TT about two months ago. Very very awkward. As you look at the offside front wheel the WP is low down on the left side of the engine. Really best tackled mostly from underneath. It will take a few hours!

the water pump was in bits.am replacing timing belt and tension pully as well. thank every one.
