Everyone at work is talking about possibly the first Ferrari Enzo to be written off in a crash.
Photos here. www.wreckedexotics.com/special/enzo/
Warning..This site in general maybe a bit morbid for some so copy and paste link if you want to look. Apparently though the Enzo driver just had a cut lip.

There is a feature on this in May's Topgear. Owner of the Enzo was the Brit who developed the Gizmondo. Car was on finance and supposed to be in the UK. Bank of Scotland are keen to repossess apparently. Ferrari say it could be as good as new for a mere £300,000...

Haven't we seen this or something virtually identical already? Tribute to the thing's construction though, if not to its driver-proof qualities...
Rather a chav story actually, writ unusually large... Could very easily translate into an appropriated Subaru or similar up a tree outside Woking...
|
I think it's totally unsurprising, not to say inevitable, that an Enzo would be wrecked. The same goes for things like Bugatti Veyrons etc.
Three priceless Quing dynasty vases have recently been smashed in the FizWilliam Museum in Cambridge by a man who claimed he tripped over his shoelace.

Well seeing as they were priceless it hardly matters then does it!
|
There is also some debate as to whether it was actually an accident. See the report here:

He was obviously tired of quing to get in.

There is a long story about the Enzo, including the fact that it was being run on UK plates. Indeed one of the photos of the car, before it was wrecked, clearly a shows a UK plate, but a check of the number on the RAC website shows that it is not allocated to any vehicle, at the moment. There is an allegation that finance is outstanding and the car had been moved from UK to prevent re-possession; it is a real can of worms, apart from being the waste of a lovely car.

That was what I meant about the chav story writ large...

DVLA has it, but the vehicle shown ran out of excise license end of January 2005.

" Everyone at work is talking about possibly the first Ferrari Enzo to be written off in a crash."
Its definately not the first, I remember seeing pics of another back in 2003. Damage wasn't as horrific, but the entire front of the car had been squashed in.
This one takes the cake for the most interesting story behind it though.
Is it me or does "Dietrich" look like Jesus?.
If I had a million pounds worth of dodgy cars I think I would be keeping a lower profile than Mr. Erikkson. I have heard his name and seen videos of him driving his cars for a while now.

Google for "Wrecked Exotics". I'll make the usual disclaimers about people being injured or killed in the accidents, but it is sad that any supercar you can think of has been smashed. Usually within the first few days of ownership.
There are several Enzos, Carrera GTs, a Zonda etc there. It's a shame that money doesn't automatically give you a) sense and b) the driving ability of an Alonso.
|
You don't have to be an Alonso to drive these things. If you did they wouldn't be sold to cash customers. You have to have a modicum of understanding though - the oft-mentioned 'mechanical sympathy' - and sobriety and emotional tranquillity are probably more important than usual until you have some of the measure of the thing.
600 BHP... not to be taken lightly or wielded carelessly.
