This is a great link.. thanks very much, but crucially I can't find anything on the A12 which has current and pending improvements.
Or have I missed them?

The only A12 bit of news in there is that the J28 M25 junction improvements have been brought forward a year.
The Eastern "Multi-modal" study recommended upgrading the A12 to 3-lanes from the M25 to Colchester. At the time the Government said it would be done to Chelmsford first and then Chelmsford-Colchester. However, it has never got as far as being put into the actual roads programme so still appears to be up in the air.

M1 jcn 31-42 widening postponed. On the Tinsley Viaduct it's actually been narrowed. The decision has been taken to keep the dedicated lanes to Meadowhall and maintain dual over the viaduct (despite the strengthening works being finished) - how to create a bottleneck in one easy lesson! At rush hour queues of southbound traffic back to jcn 36 are not unknown due to this crazy idea.

Hmm.. this would make the current upgrading at Ingatestone a complete waste of money.

One's mind often boggles with the thought of who is responsible for road design and improvements.
My feelings are that it is accountants who are committed pedestrians (ie never drive on the roads) I still remember the opening of the junction of the M11 & A12 & A406 in east London, and the queues to onto the M11 in the evenings. I travelled against the flow, so watched with dismay. and of course there is the pollution caused by stop start driving, instead of being able to keep a constant speed.
I have moved away from London and my commute to work is 15 minutes without any congestion; I still have pity for those who suffer the nightmare of traffic congestion made worse by illogical road design.

I guess we all can think of a favourite improvement or two.
Over the years the A3 has been improved with dualing, bypasses built etc.
If the Devils Punchbowl section 2008 is ignored, it is at least two lanes each way from Roehampton to the end of the A3(M) where it meets the A27 and no traffic lights BUT one roundabout spoils it.
A flyover would have made all the difference especially from the safety angle.

Don asbestos underwear..
Of course we must realise that it doesn't matter how wide they build the roads, traffic will increase to fill them!
Improving a junction does not reduce the rush hour congestion, it just shortens the rush hour as those that used to travel at 6am have an extra 15 minutes in bed and travel at 6:15 instead.
Look at any large American city and you will see where mindless roadbuilding gets you - 6 slow moving lanes inctead of three!

Yes, but all the other improvements show just how cack-handed the approach to the Hindhead problem is. I.e. still no start date for the tunnel!
