...to bear in mind when I go to look at a 2.o Mondeo Zetec (W reg) this afternoon?
It's done 56,000 so what should I expect it to have had done service wise?

Ask about the rear sub frame suspension bushes - common problem and potentially expensive to fix.
|
Thanks, will check.
Anything else?

|
Check clutch operation is ok, bit costly to replace on Mondeos.
|
scrutinise the log book carefully thats a low mileage for a 2.o litre mondy

That is on the 2000 on Mk III, W reg would be a Mk II anyway parts cost only 80 quid.

Look at the Car-by-Car Breakdown. HJ sums up the key points very well on what to look out for.
My X reg had or has these issues:
The rear lamp seal problem - fixed with some caravan mastic.
O/S rear door bottom has slight corrosion - check these
Front coil spring failed on the MoT last week - changed both
Apart from that, nothing else apart from wear and tear items in two years.

Thanks for the advice.
Would it be worthwhile to get an AA (although they seem to use a firm called Dekra now) or similar inspection done?
I've been quoted £152 for the Dekra inspection...is there a cheaper way of getting this done?
|
|
Is there a cheaper way of getting it done? Yes, if you're friendly with a local mechanic. A hours labour and a four pack of Stella has always worked for me.... ;-)
|
That would be great except I don't know any mechanics but do you reckon if i phoned a local garage they would do it for an hours labour?
I'm pretty confident the car is fine as I've given it thorough look over. But my conscience has been saying "if ya don't get it checked out and something goes horribly wrong then i'll be pretty annoyed"
Sorry if these are silly questions but I'm new to all this car buying malarky as I've shared a car for the last 3 years.

A lazy starter motor is apparantly quite common on Mondeos. (Mine was).
Generally means it is on it's last legs. (Mine was).
On some models they can be a pig to remove. (Mine was).

Thanks guys for all the info.
Tom, that will be on my growing list of things to check when I go for my second look and test drive this afternoon.
