I wonder if he's ill again? Regardless, I raise my glass to him - someone who's made many a long journey more bearable. Will be missed. Unfortunately, I've always suffered a fairly intense dislike for Chris Evans, so I daresay I'll be migrated to Radio 4 for any late afternoon journeys.
|
i do enjoy the 6.30 funnies on radio 4, with the exception of "just a minute". This show should have been put out of its misery years ago, but I suspect that if it was axed there would be the same sort of Hoo Haa we are currently seeing over the UK Theme.
I will really miss Johnnie Walker (especially Cruising). I hope Evans retains this. I hope the mystery voice goes though.

Go for Pete and Jane (5 Live) from 5 - 6 then Radio 4 from 6 onwards.

Whatever you think of 'Just a Minute' surely 'Quote Unquote...' is worse.
It's often like they've just dragged four people in off the street and sat them down in front of people who don't know how to make a radio programme.

If you like R4 Humour try an d catch a live recording (of usually 2) "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" A national treasure. Derisory comments about "quote unquote" abound. Remember where Little Britain started. Whatever I enjoy Steve Wright in the Afternoon to drive to, switch over for PM. By the way RDS is superior to DAB in
a car.
|
IMIHAC is the best program ever, on radio or television.
I find it dangerous to drive and listen to this program at the same time. There is always a chance that I will have a seizure after the Samantha joke (afficionados will know what i am talking about)and leave the road. At least I would die laughing.
A complete and utter English institution.
|
ISIHAC and the News Quiz - if anything else comes close, let me know, I'd like to hear it.
I don't find much else in the 6.30 slot entertaining, but then again as a child/teenager my elder brother always made sure i was well attuned to the Goon Show, Navy Lark, Round the Horne, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, Radio Active, H2G2, so perhaps I'm spoilt !

It's a real shame that JW is being shunted out.
He has a real knowledge of his music (and bikes and F1) and has that authoritative wordly-wise tone to his voice.
Of all the people to replace him, it's the ginger whinger. May I suggest that if, like me, you see this as a retrograde step, then vote with your fingers and tune elsewhere (although I'm not sure where). The programmers are sensitive to ratings plummeting.
|
''Since taking over from John Dunn in 1999, Johnnie has added over two million extra listeners, making it the most listened to Drivetime Show in the UK.''
Wonder how many Evans will bring ? I shall be watching the figures.

I have this feeling that I really should have listened to this Walker bloke before he got canned.
|
JW would be far too sophisticated for a mere youth, I'm afraid Adam. You'll have to put up with Radio 1 till you accquire the nescessary wisdom.
|
No no no - Radio one is home to two people even more annoying than me!
Century FM does me!

I can peg Sara Cox as one, but who's the other? If it hasn't already been taken, I nominate Tim Westwood.
|
Sara Cox? How did you ever guess!
Chris Moyles too. Used to be funny - now he tried to be funny and comes across as being arrogant.
|
You missed nothing Adam.

Oh Good. As we all know, RF is almost as cool as me so if he said I missed nothing, I missed nothing.
|
Johhny Walker i belive wants to take easier these days ,i cant think what numskull at Radio 2 decided to put Ginger bread in Jws place ,but its the same at Radio 1
Who the hell wants to listen to Sara Cox(not funny or entertaining),Vernon Kay(just another annoying northerner who cant stop phoning in every day to Chris Moyles whilst live on air and Seems to get any presenting job going on any channel!)
Colin and Edith who bummble through a show each day ,bring back Mark and Lard! Entertainment in a class of its own
Oh and whilst talking on Radio 2 ,Steve Wright ,can be really funny but generally looks down on his listeners as mere mortals!
Enough said !
Bring back proper Djs not just someone who thinks fame begins on channel 4/5
|
bring back Mark and Lard!
Seconded.
|
>> bring back Mark and Lard! Seconded.
Thirded with a biggity biggity bong in a Jim McDonald stylee.
I like Chris Moyles. Scott Mills is bearable. Otherwise it's Vibe or iPod

"I have this feeling that I really should have listened to this Walker bloke before he got canned."
Or before he got cained even. He?s had one or two problems with the old nosegay. Likes his dust apparently.
I couldn?t stick him to be honest, when he came on we used to leave the studio and pile into the pub until the traffic died down.
|
I have this feeling that I really should have listened to this Walker bloke before he got canned.
I'm sorry but who's Johnnie Walker? A DJ or purveyor of Pop music, I assume?

Back in the mid 70s, when I was a long distance driver for a well known washing machine company, J.W. had the 12 till 2 spot on Radio 1. On Tuesday he would play the new top 20 with the no 1 just before the 1 o'clock news. Bay City Rollers made the top spot.
On their third week J.W. refused to play it. Instead he played the Beatles "Get Back" and dedicated it to the Glasgow based boys band. Eventually left Radio 1 because he would not conform to the play list. I became a Radio 2 listener not so long afterwards.
Used to spend 9 to 10 hours a day in the cab mostly trunking between South Wales, the South Coast and Scotland. Radio helped you from going completely mad.
Good Days though.

I\'m sane, it\'s the rest of the world that\'s mad.

Navy Lark, Round the Horne
It's only dawning on people now how near the knuckle the above were....
|
PU - if you get the opportunity, go see the 'Round The Horne Revisited' stage show - amazing that five people on a stage reading thirty year old radio scripts is still hilarious - says a lot about the quality of the writing

Bless the late Linda Smith. In an interview she was asked if Erith (spelling?) in Kent, where she was born was twinned with anywhere? "No, but we had a suicide pact with Dagenham!" she replied. What a star!
|
No, but we had a suicide pact with Dagenham - Brilliant.
|
Oh forgot Jo Whiley off the list of useless Radio 1 Djs,dreary unimaginitve presenting, god only knows why she gets a slot on Radio ?WHY?
Seems Mark and Lard were very popular ,the Radio 1 email crashed on their last day because of the well wishers sending in messages
They even have fan websites!
Auntie Beeb can never get the balance right, look how they culled all their top names back in the early nineties like DLT, etc
I think Radio 2 is about the best station of the lot .

i miss jimmy young on an afternoon.
