So sorry my other laptop is playing up badly!
Problem with reverse gear, I have to put my foot on the clutch pedal to the floor for it to get into reverse, it then goes in but crunches into reverse.
No real problem with other gears although they're all not that smooth to get into.
Hope its not new gearbox time?

Not new gearbox but sounds like new clutch time.

Does it crunch if you put your foot on the clutch for a second or two before you put it in reverse?
If it makes no difference, then new clutch required.
VW state in the mk 3 manual to depress clutch first, leave for a second or two then put into reverse.
