scratched glass....any tips? - scfc_151
i had a new windscreen 6 months ago and have done my best to look after it. Recently with the gritters about i got a lovely scratch in the drivers view. Its not deep atall just quite long. Just wondered what products are available that wont make matters worse? Ive tried glass cutting paste but its not touch it.

Also a mate has bought a van and wants to remove the existing lettering. What is best to get this off

Thanks

Only one cure for scratched glass - replace it.

Sure there was a thread about this recently and some sort of jewellers polish was suggested?

Tried it on mine with one of the kits on eBay. Avoid. My car will definitely neen a new screen now - wish I'd left it. It introduced loads of swirl marks which really show up at night, lots more scratches where there were none - so many the area now appears slighly opaque. Expensive mistake.

Use a hairdryer, a good one that gets reasonably hot or one of those small handheld steam-cleaners (carefull though they really are hot) dont use a hot air gun they get too hot and will damage the paint. a decent thumbnail helps and whenit starts to peel try to peel it off as flat to the surface as possible. in other words dont pull it at 90degrees from the surface try and pull it back along the surface. i hope that sounds right (i know what i mean). Oh and it will leave marks which might be just as bad ...cheers...Keo

Smokers toothpaste - if the scartch is not too deep.

Rub in with cloth and wash off - ordinary toothpaste has list "scouring agent" (Chalk?) and might not work.

Jeweller rouge worked a treat on the scuffs on my windscreen.

I got a kit on eBay woth the attachment and pads for a drill, which you'll need.

The rule of thumb (Nail?) is to run a fingernail over the scratch. If you can feel it as a major depression JR won't work, and vice versa. Best of luck.
