I hope they have - Only had the unfortunate pleasure of driving one for an evening, but that was quite enough time to form a complete dislike of them.

Discontinued, no replacement currently planned though apparently according to some the designs may have made their way towards Skoda (or maybe Seat)

Yup. It was killed off in the boardroom two years ago. Never sold enough, made enough profit, and did harm to the Audi image.

Yes, died last year I think. Personally I think it's a shame - an all aluminium supermini weighing well around 850Kgs (IIRC), but with enough room for 4, and a quality interior.

Problem as I see it is that on lauch it was chronically over priced - over £17K for an averagely specced one I think. I was lent a 1.4 TDI SE demo (so well specced!)by a dealer for a weekend just after it went on sale, and it had a list of almost £20k I think! Not surprisingly, sales were poor. Even though prices were cut quite heavily towards the end, and the range slimmed down substantially, it was too little too late unfortunately.

That's the Shooting Brake concept based on the A3 platform and not dissimilar to the new TT underpinnings.

Obviously the picture is a concept - the key thing (for the benefit of the people who suggested A2 is dead and gone) is that Audi Chairman Martin Winterkorn promised the new A2 by 2008 and said (referring to the concept) it will have "that kind of style...More emotion, more sportiness. A real eye-catcher that can become an icon."

If someone wants a car like the old A2 then I'm not sure why a Honda Jazz wouldn't be perfectly adequate.

As for the price - well there are people who spend £25K on A-Class's. I think these kind of cars at aimed at 'Audi (or MB) families' who will buy the badge no matter what it cost. They're not meant for ordinary people who will query the price of oil and the hourly workshop rate.

I owned an A2 for two years and it was an excellent motor. Don't compare it to a Jazz (which wasn't around when i owned an A2) - what I liked about it was as soon as you stepped in to it you were sitting in something that had the build qaulity and feel of an Audi costing 3 or 4 times as much. In all tests I saw the A2 stood head and shoulders above the A class, but Audi never promoted the car properly.

As regards costs servicing cost me £200 after it had covered 24,000 miles, so it was actually much cheaper to service than most other superminis, even though the oil and hourly charge were high. I would have kept it, but get bored of cars after a couple of years!
