I have a Toledo 3 which also has a digital odometer display. I am interested to know how the mileage is recorded and stored within the 'computer'. Is it kM converted to miles? Where is it stored? Can it be modified? Is there a 'total mileage' value in addition to the odometer displayed value?
Shall be grateful for any help you can give on this subject.
Thanks,

Don't shout ( i.e. Upper Case ) - {shouting in subject header amended - well topmost post anyway - DD}
I think you do not have a reply because of the nature of your question i.e. potential clocking. All cars disply the total distance travelled and a resetable trip mileage. The greatest majority of speedos store these values in non-volitile memory and are incremented my information from the ECU i.e. Diff crown wheel rotation. Nwere generations are S/W selectable in KM or Miles although digital speedos are manual selectable is some cases. I hope that satisfies your question. Regards Peter

Hi Peter,
Apologies for shouting - not aware of etiquette. Clocking is not something that has entered my mind. I am interested to gain some appreciation of how the process fits together. Thanks for your comments.

How do you mean "modified"?

Further. I believe the information is held as a divided down count and is scaled appropriately to dislay miles or Kms Regards Peter

I do know the back up battery in the VAG vehicles digital speedos last 5 years, Another useless piece of information I learned from a time served VAG mechanic.

Modified can mean anything! However, if data is stored on eprom then any computer with appropriate leads and program could be used to both read and write data. This service is advertised widely on www.
